Installation Guidelines

  • This atmospheric vacuum breaker is designed to protect a cross-connection against backsiphonage where the vacuum breaker is not subjected to back pressures.
  • It must be installed on the discharge side of the last shutoff valve.
  • Code requirements vary, but a minimum of 6 inches (150mm) above the highest overflow level is required.
  • The air inlet must be installed in a level position.

Note: Do not install any valve or shutoff device on the discharge side of this atmospheric vacuum breaker.

Additional Details

This 1 1/2 inch FEBCO Series 710 Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker Backflow Preventer provides positive protection against backsiphonage of impure water into the main supply system.

It is designed for non-continuous pressure applications where pressure loss could cause vacuum conditions, ideal for protecting water in systems like hose bibbs, chemical vats, X-ray tanks, turf irrigation systems, and laboratory sinks.

Features

  • Assures positive protection against backsiphonage
  • Bronze body construction for durability
  • Designed for cold water applications
  • Internal parts are serviceable in-line from the top of the unit
  • Lightweight plastic poppets with resilient rubber poppet discs ensure positive closure
  • Meets all specifications of ASSE
  • Simple service procedures
  • End connections are 1 1/2 inch female NPT ANSI/ASME B1.20.1

Operation

  • A poppet seals the air inlet when the unit is pressurized.
  • During a backsiphonage event, the poppet drops to allow air to enter the downstream piping.
  • The poppet simultaneously shields the water inlet, preventing foreign materials from entering the upstream piping.
  • Restoration of pressure (flow) lifts the poppet to seal the air inlet.
