Installation Guidelines

  • This valve is designed for installation in a continuous pressure potable water supply system.
  • Must be installed 12 inches above the highest point of the downstream piping.
  • Install with the supply connected to the bottom and in a vertical position.
  • Allow adequate space for periodic inspection, servicing, or testing.
  • Do not install the valve in an area where freezing or spillage can cause damage.
  • Test cocks are positioned at the lowest point of the valve for winterization draining.

Freeze Sensor Activation

  • An add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required to activate the freeze sensor and enable communication.
  • Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component with no communication to any other device.
  • Freeze alerts can integrate with Wi-Fi networks, building management systems (BMS), and irrigation management systems (IMS) when the connection kit is used.

Additional Protection & Considerations

  • Adequate drainage/freeze protection must be provided in cold weather applications, as the built-in relief valve is not designed to provide freeze protection for the entire irrigation system.
  • Vacuum breakers are not designed, tested, or approved to protect against backpressure backflow or water hammer shock.
  • For backpressure backflow protection, consider installing a Watts 909/009 Reduced Pressure Zone backflow preventer.
  • For water hammer shock protection, install a Watts Series 15 Water Hammer Arrestor.
  • A WattsBox Insulated Enclosure can be used for additional freeze protection.

Additional Details

This 1 inch freeze resistant pressure vacuum breaker backflow preventer helps prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage. Its superior design is ideal for continuous pressure health hazard applications, such as on irrigation systems and industrial process water systems, especially where sudden freezing conditions may occur.

A WARNING: It is illegal to use this product in any plumbing system providing water for human consumption, such as drinking or dishwashing, in the United States. Before installing, consult your local water authority, building, and plumbing codes.

A WARNING: The freeze sensor solely provides alerts about a possible freeze event and cannot prevent a freeze event from occurring. User action is required to prevent freeze conditions from causing product and/or property damage.

Freeze Protection & Alerts

  • Features a unique built-in relief valve that automatically relieves pressure caused by ice formation within the valve body and internal components, protecting against damage.
  • Includes an integrated freeze sensor for use with SentryPlus Alert® technology to signal facility personnel when temperatures near and reach the freezing point.
  • Freeze alerts are available with an add-on connection kit (sold separately) for Wi-Fi networks, building management systems (BMS), or irrigation management systems (IMS).

Construction & Components

  • Durable bronze body construction for long-lasting performance.
  • Utilizes a silicone rubber check valve disc, Noryl® plastic check valve seat, and stainless steel springs.
  • Features an acetal bonnet with a silicone rubber O-ring seal and a lightweight polypropylene disc float.
  • Equipped with tee handle quarter turn ball valve shutoffs for reliable control.
