Help Me Connect

This backflow preventer assembly is designed for installation on fire protection systems and other cross-connections where health hazards are present. It features groove fittings for integral pipeline adjustment.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the integrated flood sensor
  • Without the connection kit, the flood sensor will remain a passive component
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi

Additional Details

This Colt™ 10 inch lead free reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and water of non-potable quality from being pumped or siphoned into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is ideal for protection at cross-connections identified as health hazards, such as on fire sprinkler systems and from other contaminants found at the service line entrance.

Design & Construction

  • Extremely compact design, 70% lighter than traditional designs
  • Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for superior durability and corrosion resistance
  • Groove fittings for integral pipeline adjustment
  • Patented link check for lowest pressure loss
  • Unmatched ease of serviceability with replaceable check disc rubber
  • Features outside stem and yoke (OS&Y) resilient seated gate valves
  • Bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve
  • Lead Free* construction with wetted surfaces containing less than 0.25% lead by weight for compliance with installation requirements

Leak & Flood Detection

  • Includes a metered bypass to detect leakage or theft of water from the fire sprinkler system
  • Equipped with a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve
  • The flood sensor relays a signal that triggers a multichannel alert (call, email, text) to notify personnel about potential flooding
  • The OS&Y model includes an option for an integrated supervisory switch on each gate valve
  • Flood alert feature activated by an add-on sensor connection kit

An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device. A retrofit sensor connection kit is also available for existing installations.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Colt LFC500 Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly?

Its primary purpose is to protect potable water systems from contamination due to backsiphonage and backpressure, commonly used in health-hazard applications like fire sprinkler systems.

What is the maximum working pressure and temperature range for this backflow preventer?

The maximum working pressure is 175 PSI (12.1 bar), and the temperature range is 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C).

What materials are used for the main housing and sleeve of the LFC500 assembly?

The main housing and sleeve are constructed from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance.

How does the flood sensor function, and what is required to activate it?

The flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve and relays alerts. An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate its communication capabilities; otherwise, it remains passive.

Does this backflow preventer comply with Lead Free requirements?

Yes, the LFC500 series features Lead Free* construction, meaning the wetted surface of the product contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight, complying with Lead Free installation requirements.
