Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology requires an add-on connection kit to become active and communicate alerts.
  • Connection kit options include BMS (Building Management System) integration, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • Without an add-on connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not relay alerts.

Additional Details

This Colt™ 2 1/2 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer Assembly provides critical protection to potable water systems by preventing contamination from backsiphonage and backpressure, while also monitoring for unauthorized water use from fire protection systems. Its compact, modular design features Type 304 stainless steel construction and is approved for horizontal Z pattern installation.

Flood Detection & Monitoring

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device.
  • When paired with an add-on connection kit, the sensor relays alerts for potential flooding events via BMS, cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor, enabling integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Construction & Design

  • The entire valve body and closure sleeve are manufactured from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel.
  • Features grooved gear operated butterfly valves with tamper switch.
  • Incorporates two independent Link Check modules with reversible elastomer discs for drip-tight closure against reverse flow.
  • Includes a bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve and nickel-plated Lead Free bronze body test cocks.
  • Designed for extremely compact installation and is approximately 70% lighter than traditional designs.

Performance & Functionality

  • A metered bypass with a CFM meter helps detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use from the fire sprinkler system.
  • Patented link check design for lowest pressure loss and unmatched ease of serviceability.
  • Replaceable check disc rubber for easy maintenance.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the LFC500Z-BFG-C-FS backflow preventer?

This assembly is designed to protect potable water systems from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable fire protection substances due to backsiphonage or backpressure. It also monitors for unauthorized water use from the fire system.

Is this backflow preventer compliant with lead-free requirements?

Yes, the Colt LFC500Z-BFG-C-FS features Lead Free* construction, meaning the wetted surface of the product contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight, complying with Lead Free installation requirements.

How does the flood sensor feature work?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate the sensor and enable it to relay alerts, an add-on connection kit (BMS, cellular, or Sensor Control Monitor) is required.

What are the main materials used in the construction of this assembly?

The housing and closure sleeve are constructed from durable Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Elastomers include EPDM, silicone, and Buna-N, while link checks are Noryl® and stainless steel with reversible silicone or EPDM check discs. Test cocks are made from Lead Free bronze.

What type of shutoff valves are included with this model?

The LFC500Z-BFG-C-FS model is furnished with grooved gear operated butterfly valves that include a tamper switch for enhanced security and monitoring.
