Installation Guidelines

  • This valve must be installed in a continuous pressure potable water supply system.
  • Ensure the supply is connected to the bottom of the valve, and the unit is mounted in a vertical position.
  • Maintain a minimum clearance of 12 inches (305mm) above the highest point of the downstream piping.
  • Do not install in areas prone to freezing or spillage; provide adequate drainage and freeze protection in cold climates.
  • A minimum of 1.5 psi (10 kPa) must be exerted against the float spring to ensure proper seal.
  • Avoid undersizing supply and discharge piping.
  • This vacuum breaker is not designed for protection against backpressure backflow or water hammer shock. For such protection, a Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer is required.

Freeze Protection Steps

  • Close the main shutoff valve.
  • Open the upstream drain, all test cocks, and isolation ball valves to depressurize the line.
  • Purge the system with air.
  • Leave test cock and isolation ball valve handles at a 45-degree angle to ensure proper drainage and prevent casting damage.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the FEBCO LF767FR pressure vacuum breaker?

The primary function of this 2-inch pressure vacuum breaker is to prevent the backsiphonage of contaminated water into the potable water supply, especially in continuous pressure systems.

Is this backflow preventer suitable for freezing conditions?

Yes, the LF767FR features a freeze-resistant design with a unique built-in relief valve that automatically relieves pressure caused by ice formation, protecting the valve body and internal components.

What are the key materials used in the construction of the LF767FR?

The body is made from Lead Free* cast silicon copper alloy. It includes stainless steel springs, a Celcon® bonnet, silicone rubber vent and check valve discs, and a Noryl plastic check valve seat.

What are the installation requirements for this pressure vacuum breaker?

It must be installed vertically, with the supply connected to the bottom, and at least 12 inches (305mm) above the highest point of downstream piping. It is crucial to provide adequate drainage and freeze protection in cold weather.

Can the LF767FR be used to protect against backpressure backflow?

No, vacuum breakers are not designed, tested, or approved to protect against backpressure backflow. For protection against backpressure backflow, a Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer should be installed.
