Additional Details

The Zurn Wilkins Model ZW209 Pilot Operated Pressure Reducing Valve is designed for many applications where the reduction of high inlet pressures to safe and stable outlet pressure is required. This valve ensures constant downstream pressure regardless of changing flow rates.

Features

  • Pilot operated assembly reacts to downstream pressure changes, allowing the main valve to modulate and maintain a constant set pressure.
  • The main valve will seal shut once the downstream pressure reaches the pilot setting, preventing potential downstream damage.
  • Epoxy coating applied internally and externally provides superior corrosion protection.
  • Comes standard with isolation valves and pressure gauges for quick and easy maintenance or repair.
  • Pressure regulation is not dependent on flow rate, resulting in minimal pressure loss through the valve.
  • Available with globe, reduced port globe, and angle bodies for versatile installations.

Operation

The Zurn Wilkins Model ZW209 utilizes a pressure reducing pilot valve installed on the discharge side of the control circuitry. This pilot is a direct acting, normally open, spring loaded, diaphragm actuated valve. The valve operates by accurately sizing the valve and fine-tuning the control circuit with the pilot spring. Inlet pressure is piped to the pilot's inlet port, and a sensing line from the pilot's discharge side controls the diaphragm. This modulating action ensures that downstream pressure remains stable within narrow limits, irrespective of varying flow rates or inlet pressures.

The closing speed control (optional) on this valve should always be open at least three (3) turns off its seat.

Caution: The recommended installation orientation for Automatic Control Valves (ACVs) is horizontal, with the valve cover up. 6 inch and larger valves should only be installed horizontally with the valve cover up, due to the difficulty of properly bleeding air out of the cover and performing maintenance on valves installed in the vertical orientation.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Zurn Wilkins Model ZW209 valve?

The Zurn Wilkins Model ZW209 is a pilot-operated pressure reducing valve primarily designed to reduce high inlet pressures to a safe and stable outlet pressure in various applications, ensuring consistent downstream pressure.

What are the connection types and size for this specific ZW209 model (SKU 2-ZW209FPTH)?

This specific model features 2 inch FNPT (Female National Pipe Taper) threaded connections, suitable for mating with 2 inch Male NPT threaded pipes.

What is the maximum operating pressure for the Zurn Wilkins ZW209?

The Zurn Wilkins Model ZW209 has a maximum pressure rating of 400 PSI, making it suitable for high-pressure systems.

How does the ZW209 prevent downstream damage from pressure fluctuations?

The valve's pilot assembly ensures that once the downstream pressure reaches the set pilot setting, the main valve will automatically seal shut, preventing damage from pressure surges.

What materials are used for the main valve body and critical internal components?

The main valve body and bonnet are constructed from Ductile Iron ASTM A536. Critical internal components like the disc guide, seat, and stem are made of Stainless Steel, while the disc and diaphragm use Buna-N Rubber and Nylon Reinforced Buna-N respectively.
