Installation Guidelines

  • This atmospheric vacuum breaker must be installed on the discharge side of the last shutoff valve.
  • It requires a minimum installation height of 6 inches (150mm) above the highest overflow level of the equipment it protects.
  • The air inlet must always be in a level position.
  • Note: No valve of any type, including shutoff valves, may be installed downstream of this atmospheric vacuum breaker.

Connection Type

  • The unit features female NPT inlet and outlet connections, designed to connect with corresponding male NPT threaded fittings.

Additional Details

This 3/4 inch atmospheric vacuum breaker backflow preventer assures positive protection against backsiphonage of impure water into the main supply if pressure loss causes vacuum conditions.

Primary Applications

  • Hose bibbs
  • Chemical vats
  • X-ray tanks
  • Turf irrigation systems
  • Laboratory sinks

Features

  • Features a durable bronze body.
  • Equipped with lightweight plastic poppets and resilient rubber poppet discs for positive closure.
  • Internal parts are serviceable in line from the top of the unit, simplifying maintenance.
  • End Connections: NPT ANSI/ASME B1.20.1.
  • Meets all specifications of ASSE.

Operation

The unit operates by sealing the air inlet with a poppet when pressurized. During a backsiphonage event, the poppet drops, allowing air to enter the downstream piping and preventing foreign materials from entering the upstream supply. Restoration of pressure then lifts the poppet to reseal the air inlet.
