Description

This 3/4 inch FEBCO LF767FR Lead Free Freeze-Resistant Pressure Vacuum Breaker protects potable water supplies from backsiphonage in continuous pressure applications. Its unique design features a built-in relief valve that automatically opens to prevent damage from internal ice expansion, making it ideal for systems exposed to freezing conditions like irrigation. Constructed from lead free cast silicon copper alloy, it ensures durability and compliance with lead content regulations. With a maximum working pressure of 150 PSI, quarter-turn shutoffs, and test cocks for easy winterization, this ASSE 1020 approved device offers reliable and low-maintenance backflow prevention. Item number 0683028.

Installation Requirements

  • Install in a continuous pressure potable water supply system.
  • The valve must be positioned 12 inches (305mm) above the highest point of the downstream piping.
  • Install with the supply connected to the bottom and in a vertical position.
  • Ensure adequate space is available for periodic inspection, servicing, and testing.
  • Do not install in areas prone to freezing or spillage without proper drainage/freeze protection.
  • A minimum of 1.5 PSI (10 kPa) must be exerted against the float spring to seal the float and air inlet.
  • Avoid undersizing supply and discharge piping.

Important Compatibility Note

Pressure Vacuum Breakers are not designed to protect against backpressure backflow or water hammer shock. For such protection, consider installing a Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer like the FEBCO 825Y/LF825Y series.

Winterization / Freeze Protection Guidelines

  • Close the main shutoff valve.
  • Open upstream drain, test cocks, and isolation ball valves to depressurize the line.
  • Purge the system with air.
  • Leave test cocks and isolation ball valve handles at a 45° angle to fully drain ball valves and prevent casting damage.

Additional Details

This 3/4 inch Lead Free Freeze Resistant Pressure Vacuum Breaker Backflow Preventer prevents the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage. It is designed to protect potable water systems under continuous pressure from contamination, especially in applications exposed to sudden freezing, such as irrigation systems and industrial process water systems.

The LF767FR incorporates a unique design to safeguard its internal components and body from freezing. As ice forms and expands, a built-in relief valve automatically opens to relieve pressure, then re-seats when pressure normalizes. This ensures the device remains functional and protected against damage from ice.

Key Features

  • Lead Free* cast silicon copper alloy body construction.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the FEBCO LF767FR?

The primary function of the FEBCO LF767FR is to prevent backsiphonage of contaminated water into the potable water supply, especially in continuous pressure systems exposed to freezing conditions.

How does this backflow preventer protect against freezing?

The LF767FR features a unique built-in relief valve. If ice forms and expands within the unit, the relief valve opens to release pressure, protecting the internal components and body from damage.

What is the maximum operating pressure for the 3/4 inch LF767FR?

The maximum operating pressure for this 3/4 inch model is 150 PSI (10.3 bar). The minimum operating pressure is 15 PSI (103 kPa).

What material is the body made from?

The body is constructed from Lead Free* cast silicon copper alloy, ensuring compliance with lead content requirements for potable water applications.

Can the LF767FR be used for protection against backpressure backflow?

No, pressure vacuum breakers like the LF767FR are not designed or approved to protect against backpressure backflow. For such applications, a Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer should be used.
