Additional Details

This 3 inch reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent backsiphonage and backpressure of hazardous materials into potable water supplies. It is ideal for continuous pressure piping applications and cross-connections identified as health hazards.

It is illegal to use this product in any plumbing system providing water for human consumption, such as drinking or dishwashing, in the United States. Before installing standard material product, consult your local water authority, building and plumbing codes.

Flood Detection

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert technology to detect continuous discharge from the relief valve.
  • Requires an add-on sensor connection kit (sold separately) to activate the flood sensor and enable alerts.
  • When activated, the sensor relays signals for corrective action, preventing costly damage and limiting flooding.
  • Integrates with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa platform through Wi-Fi when paired with the Sensor Control Monitor (sold separately).

Construction & Design

  • Features a short lay length and lightweight stainless steel body for easy installation and reduced shipping costs.
  • Designed with UL Classified and FM Approved outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves and thermoplastic cam-check valves.
  • The stainless steel relief valve has a balanced rolling diaphragm, eliminating sliding seals and lowering maintenance needs.
  • Cam-check valves offer maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • No special tools are required for servicing due to its compact and modular design.
  • All internal parts are accessible via a single cover with a two-bolt grooved coupling.
  • Equipped with four bronze body ball type test cocks and a hydraulically balanced bypass line (less meter).

FAQs

What is the primary use of this backflow preventer?

This 3 inch reduced pressure detector backflow preventer is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination caused by backsiphonage and backpressure from non-potable sources in health hazard applications like irrigation, firelines, and industrial processing.

Does this model include a water meter?

No, this specific model (LM) is designed without a water meter in its bypass line, offering a "less meter" configuration.

How does the flood sensor work?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate the sensor and enable alert notifications, an add-on connection kit must be purchased separately.

What materials are used in the construction of this assembly?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are made from 300 Series stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The check assembly uses Noryl®, and the cam-check valves are thermoplastic.

What are the main approvals for this backflow preventer?

This Ames 5000SS assembly is approved to AWWA C511-92, ASSE 1047, cULus Classified, and FM Approved, ensuring it meets industry safety and performance standards.
