Description

This 3 inch Colt C400Z-NRS-FS Reduced Pressure Zone backflow preventer is designed for horizontal Z-pattern installation to protect potable water systems from contamination. It prevents reverse flow due to backsiphonage or backpressure in continuous pressure piping applications. Constructed with a lead-free Type 304 stainless steel body and non-rising stem resilient seated gate valves, it offers durability and ease of service. A key feature is the integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology, which detects excessive relief valve discharges and can relay alerts when paired with an add-on connection kit for BMS, cellular, or Wi-Fi integration. Item number F0191301.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

This backflow preventer includes an integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate the sensor's communication and alert features, an add-on connection kit is required.

  • Sensor Control Monitor: Enables integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • Other Options: Add-on connection kits are also available for BMS and cellular communication to relay multichannel alerts (call, email, text).

Without an add-on connection kit, the flood sensor functions as a passive component and will not communicate with external devices.

Additional Details

This Colt™ 3 inch lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and non-potable water into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is approved for horizontal Z pattern installation and is ideal for continuous pressure piping applications and cross-connections identified as health hazards.

Construction & Design

  • Features a Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve with a quick access sleeve.
  • Includes two independent Link Check modules with torsion spring checks for unmatched ease of serviceability and lowest pressure loss.
  • Equipped with resilient seated gate valves featuring non-rising stem (NRS) shutoff valves.
  • Designed with groove couplings for easy installation and integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Replaceable check disc rubber ensures reliable performance.
  • Extremely compact design allows for smaller enclosures compared to traditional designs.

Flood Detection & Alerts

  • Contains an integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • When paired with an add-on connection kit, the sensor activates to relay alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Add-on connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor which integrates with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

NOTICE: An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's communication features. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer is designed to protect potable water systems from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable substances due to backsiphonage or backpressure, especially in health hazard applications and continuous pressure piping.

What are the key materials used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are constructed from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. It features Noryl® and stainless steel link checks, and reversible silicone or EPDM check discs. All wetted surfaces contain less than 0.25% lead.

How does the integrated flood sensor work?

The flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is connected, the sensor can relay alerts via BMS, cellular communication, or Wi-Fi to notify personnel of potential flooding.

What type of shutoff valves does this assembly use?

This assembly is equipped with non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves. These valves provide drip-tight shutoff capabilities.

Can this backflow preventer be installed in any orientation?

No, this specific model (C400Z-NRS-FS) is approved for horizontal Z pattern installation only. Proper installation according to the flow arrow and local codes is required.
