Description

The Colt 3 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly, SKU F0124640, safeguards potable water systems from contamination by preventing backflow from fire sprinkler systems and other health hazards. Featuring a compact 304 stainless steel body, OSY resilient seated gate valves, and a metered bypass for leak detection. An integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert technology detects excessive relief valve discharge, alerting personnel to potential flooding when an add-on connection kit is installed. This assembly is designed for reliable performance and easy serviceability, meeting strict industry standards.

Help Me Connect

Connections

  • This Colt™ LFC500 backflow preventer features grooved inlet and outlet gate connections for straightforward pipeline integration.
  • The Outside Stem and Yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves are standard on this model.

Flood Sensor Activation

  • The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit to become active and communicate alerts.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor, allowing integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi.

Supervisory Switch

  • The OSY model includes an integrated supervisory switch that ensures continuity when the valve is fully open and activates within two (2) turns from the open position, indicating valve status.

Additional Details

This Colt™ 3 inch lead free reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and water of non-potable quality from being pumped or siphoned into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure. It is ideal for protection at cross-connections identified as health hazards, such as on fire sprinkler systems and from other contaminants found at the service line entrance.

Design & Construction

  • Features an extremely compact design, making it 70% lighter than traditional models.
  • The entire valve body and closure sleeve are manufactured from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel, ensuring durability.
  • Includes groove fittings for integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Equipped with patented link checks for the lowest pressure loss and reversible elastomer discs.
  • Offers unmatched ease of serviceability with replaceable check disc rubber.
  • The bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology for discharge detection.
  • A metered bypass with a gallon per minute meter is furnished to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • Features UL Classified and FM Approved outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves with grooved inlet and outlet connections.

Flood Detection & Alerts

  • A flood sensor on the relief valve detects excessive water discharges.
  • When paired with an add-on sensor connection kit (available separately), the flood sensor activates to relay alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor, which enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

NOTICE: An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device. Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

FAQs

What is the primary function of this backflow preventer?

This Colt™ LFC500 Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly is designed to protect potable water systems from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable substances due to backsiphonage or backpressure, commonly found in fire protection systems or other health hazard cross-connections.

What does "Lead Free" mean for this product?

The term "Lead Free" indicates that the wetted surface of this product, which comes into contact with consumable water, contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight, complying with national plumbing codes and installation requirements.

How does the flood sensor work?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is installed, the sensor activates to relay signals that can trigger multi-channel alerts to notify personnel of potential flooding.

What types of connections does this backflow assembly use?

This assembly comes with grooved inlet and grooved outlet gate connections, suitable for integral pipeline adjustment. These connections are part of the Outside Stem and Yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are constructed from durable Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Elastomers include EPDM, silicone, and Buna-N, while link checks are Noryl® and stainless steel, and check discs are reversible silicone or EPDM.
