Additional Details

This Colt™ 4 inch stainless steel reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to protect potable water systems from contamination due to backsiphonage and backpressure, commonly used in health hazard applications for fire protection and other systems.

This extremely compact assembly is lighter than traditional designs and is approved for horizontal installation. It features a robust Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve, two independent link check modules, a differential pressure relief valve, and two domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves. Groove couplings ensure easy installation and pipe alignment. The assembly also includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.

Flood Sensor & SentryPlus Alert® Technology

  • Detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve, providing early warning for potential flooding events.
  • Requires an add-on connection kit (not included) to activate the flood sensor for communication.
  • Connection kit options include BMS integration, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Features

  • Extremely compact design allows for use in smaller enclosures.
  • 70% lighter than traditional designs for easier handling and installation.
  • Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for durability.
  • Groove couplings for easy installation and integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Patented link check modules with torsion springs for lowest pressure loss and ease of serviceability.
  • Domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves are drip-tight.
  • Includes an integrated supervisory switch as an option on each OSY gate valve.
  • Lead Free* construction: wetted surface contains less than 0.25% lead by weight.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this backflow preventer?

This 4 inch Colt C400 Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer is designed to protect potable water systems from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable substances due to backsiphonage or backpressure.

What type of gate valves are included with this assembly?

The assembly includes two domestic Outside Stem and Yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, which are UL Classified and FM Approved. These valves are drip-tight for reliable shutoff.

How does the flood sensor work, and what is required to activate it?

The integrated flood sensor uses SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its communication capabilities for alerts, an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required.

What type of connections does this backflow preventer use?

This backflow preventer features grooved couplings on both the inlet and outlet, designed for easy installation and alignment with compatible grooved piping systems.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are made from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Other components include Noryl® and stainless steel link checks, EPDM and silicone elastomers, and Lead Free* bronze for the test cocks.
