Monitoring Connection

This Watts LF709 double check valve assembly features integrated pressure-sensing test cocks. For active monitoring and data transmission, an add-on monitoring connection kit (not included) is required. This kit enables the sensors to measure pressure fluctuations at three locations, transmitting data to Building Management Systems (BMS) or Building Automation Systems (BAS) via a wired serial (RS-485) interface. This technology supports monitoring of assembly performance between code testing and helps in scheduling maintenance and repair.

Installation Use

This assembly is ideal for protection in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as non-health hazards. It is approved for vertical flow up installation.

Additional Details

This 4 inch lead free double check valve backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the backflow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and or backpressure. Its compact modular design facilitates easy maintenance with a single access cover for in-line repairs.

Key Features

  • Lead Free construction to comply with installation requirements
  • Advanced ArmorTek® coating technology to resist microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrate
  • Simplified modular check design concept for complete maintenance by retaining the spring load
  • Domestic NRS resilient seated gate valves for reliable shutoff
  • Integrated pressure-sensing test cocks (Model IOT) at three locations to measure pressure fluctuations
  • Replaceable stainless steel seats and captured spring assemblies for safety
  • Maximum flow at low pressure drop
  • No special tools required for servicing
  • Approved for vertical flow up installation

Inquire with governing authorities for local installation requirements. Use of integrated pressure sensors and monitoring connection kits does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of the backflow preventer.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts LF709 double check valve assembly?

It is designed to prevent the backflow of polluted water from non-health hazard sources into the potable water supply system, protecting against backsiphonage and backpressure.

What is the maximum working pressure and temperature range for this assembly?

The Watts LF709 has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). It operates continuously between 33°F and 110°F (0.5°C - 43°C) and intermittently up to 140°F (60°C).

How does the ArmorTek® coating benefit the backflow preventer?

ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system applied to the cast iron body and internal components. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, enhancing the durability and lifespan of the assembly.

Can this LF709 model be used for monitoring its performance?

Yes, this model features integrated pressure-sensing test cocks (Model IOT) that measure pressure fluctuations. An optional add-on monitoring connection kit is required to activate these sensors and transmit data to a Building Management System for performance assessment.

Is this backflow preventer suitable for vertical installations?

Yes, the Watts LF709 Double Check Valve Assembly is approved for vertical flow up installation.
