Description

This 4 inch lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed for reliable protection against backsiphonage and backpressure of polluted water into potable water supplies. Featuring durable cast iron construction with advanced ArmorTek® coating, it offers superior corrosion resistance for internal and external surfaces. Domestic non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves ensure reliable shutoff. The integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects continuous relief valve discharge, providing early warning for potential flooding. It is suitable for continuous pressure piping applications requiring health hazard cross-connection control. Item number 88009311.

Installation Guidelines

  • This assembly is designed for installation at cross-connections to prevent backsiphonage and backpressure backflow of hazardous materials into the potable water supply.
  • It is suitable for protection in continuous pressure piping applications.
  • The valve can be furnished with two OSY or two NRS shutoffs.
  • The relief valve section is furnished standardly and reversible for implementation on either side.

Drain Line Considerations

A drain line installation is recommended for the relief valve discharge. When installing a drain line, an air gap is necessary to ensure proper drainage and prevent issues within the drainage system.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges. For extended flood monitoring capabilities and to relay alerts, an add-on sensor connection kit is available. This kit allows integration with a Sensor Control Monitor for connecting to Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity.

Additional Details

This 4 inch lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly prevents the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is ideal for protection in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards.

Features

  • Features a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect continuous discharge from the relief valve.
  • Utilizes advanced ArmorTek® coating technology to resist corrosion of internals.
  • Cast iron body construction with patented 3-part advanced epoxy coating system designed to limit both microbial induced (MIC) and exposed metal substrate corrosion.
  • Unique patented air-in and water-out design provides high capacity relief valve discharge performance during emergency conditions.
  • Domestic non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves.
  • Includes captured spring check valves, replaceable seats, top mounted test cocks, and a field reversible pressure differential relief valve.
  • An add-on sensor connection kit is available to extend flood monitoring on compatible assemblies.
  • Integrates with the Sensor Control Monitor to deliver maintenance alerts to BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform by Wi-Fi connectivity.

How It Operates

  • The unique relief valve construction incorporates two channels: one for air, the other for water. When the relief valve opens, the right-hand channel admits air to the top of the reduced pressure zone, relieving the zone vacuum.
  • The channel on the left then drains the zone to atmosphere.
  • If both check valves foul, and simultaneous negative supply and positive backpressure develop, the relief valve uses the air-in/water-out principle to stop potential backflow.

The installation of a drain line is recommended. When installing a drain line, an air gap is necessary.

FAQs

What is the primary function of this backflow preventer assembly?

This 4 inch reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to both backsiphonage and backpressure conditions.

What does the ArmorTek® coating technology do?

The ArmorTek® coating technology is a patented 3-part advanced epoxy system applied to internal and external surfaces. It provides integrated protection against electrochemical corrosion and microbial-induced corrosion (MIC), extending the product's lifespan.

Does this backflow preventer include shutoff valves?

Yes, this assembly includes domestic non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves. These valves provide reliable shutoff capabilities for the assembly.

What is the purpose of the SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor?

The SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor is integrated with the relief valve to detect excessive or continuous water discharges. This technology can provide alerts for potential flooding events, especially when paired with an add-on connection kit.

What are the recommended installation practices for a drain line?

When installing a drain line with this backflow preventer, it is recommended to include an air gap. This air gap is crucial for proper operation and to prevent potential issues within the drainage system.
