Description

This 4 inch Watts LF909 Lead Free Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination caused by backsiphonage and backpressure. It features an epoxy coated cast iron body with advanced ArmorTek® corrosion-resistant coating and OSY resilient seated gate valves. The NYC version includes pre-drilled 304SS bolts and a discharge restrictor plate. An integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharge, offering enhanced monitoring when paired with an add-on connection kit. The assembly operates up to 175 psi and is approved to ASSE 1013, AWWA C511-92, CSA B64.4, and NSF 61-G standards.

Help Me Connect

The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit (sold separately) to activate its alert features. Without this kit, the sensor remains a passive component without communication capabilities.

Connection Kit Options:

  • BMS (Building Management System) compatibility for facility monitoring.
  • Cellular communication for remote alerts.
  • Sensor Control Monitor enables integration with BAS (Building Automation Systems) via RS-485 Modbus or connectivity to the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

The Watts 4 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly, Series LF909, is engineered to prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering potable water supplies due to backsiphonage and backpressure.

This assembly provides essential cross-connection control in compliance with national plumbing codes for a wide range of installations, including health hazard connections and service line containment.

Construction & Design

  • Features an epoxy coated cast iron body with ArmorTek® coating technology, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system designed to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal surfaces.
  • Includes OSY (Outside Stem & Yoke) resilient seated gate valves for reliable shutoff.
  • Equipped with captured spring check valves, replaceable seats, and stainless steel internal parts for durability and ease of maintenance.
  • Designed with a field reversible pressure differential relief valve that incorporates an exclusive "air-in/water-out" principle for maximum discharge capacity during emergency conditions.
  • This NYC version comes with four sets of 304SS bolts/nuts with 1/4 inch holes drilled axially and a restrictor plate to limit discharge.

Flood Detection & Alerts

  • Contains an integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • When paired with an add-on connection kit (sold separately), the sensor is activated to relay alerts for potential flooding events, compatible with BMS, cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts LF909 backflow preventer?

The primary function is to protect potable water supplies by preventing the reverse flow of polluted water due to backsiphonage and backpressure, ensuring cross-connection control in accordance with national plumbing codes.

What does "Lead Free" mean for this backflow preventer?

For this product, "Lead Free" means that the wetted surface of the components that contact consumable water contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight, complying with Lead Free installation requirements.

How does the ArmorTek® coating benefit this assembly?

The ArmorTek® coating is a patented three-part advanced epoxy system applied to the cast iron body and internal/external surfaces. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, extending the product's lifespan.

What is the purpose of the integrated flood sensor?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When connected with an add-on kit, it can relay alerts to facility personnel, helping to prevent extensive flooding and costly damage.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.06 bar). It can operate continuously from 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C), with intermittent operation up to 140°F (60°C).
