Applications

  • Designed for health-hazard cross-connections, including fire sprinkler systems and service line entrances.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit to become active and communicate alerts. Connection kit options include:

  • Building Management Systems (BMS) integration.
  • Cellular communication.
  • Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Note: Without an add-on connection kit, the flood sensor functions passively without communication.

Additional Details

This Colt™ 4 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer Assembly provides protection for potable water systems from contamination by preventing backpressure and backsiphonage. It is specifically designed for health-hazard cross-connections, such as fire sprinkler systems and other service line contaminants.

The compact modular design includes a stainless steel body with a quick access sleeve, link check valves, and domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves. This assembly helps monitor unauthorized water use from fire protection systems and detects potential flooding events.

Features

  • Lead Free* construction for compliance with installation requirements.
  • Extremely compact design and 70% lighter than traditional designs.
  • Housing and sleeve made from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel.
  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • Flood alert feature is activated by an add-on sensor connection kit to relay alerts for potential flooding.
  • Integrates with the Sensor Control Monitor for maintenance alerts to BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • Furnished with a cubic feet per minute (CFM) meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • Drip tight shutoff valves.
  • Patented link check for lowest pressure loss and drip tight closure against reverse flow.
  • Unmatched ease of serviceability with replaceable check disc rubber.
  • Groove fittings for integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Bottom-mounted corrosive resistant cast stainless steel relief valve.
  • No special tools required for servicing.

NOTICE: An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device.

NOTICE: Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge. Watts® is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

FAQs

What is the primary function of this backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer is designed to protect potable water systems from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable water and fire protection substances caused by backsiphonage or backpressure.

What is the "Lead Free" designation for this product?

The "Lead Free" designation indicates that the wetted surface of this product, which comes into contact with consumable water, contains less than 0.25% lead by weight.

How does the integrated flood sensor work?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. It requires an add-on connection kit to activate and relay alerts for potential flooding events.

What kind of shutoff valves does this assembly use?

This assembly features domestic Outside Stem and Yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, which are designed for drip-tight shutoff.

What is the purpose of the cubic feet per minute (CFM) meter?

The CFM meter, part of the metered bypass assembly, is used to detect underground leaks or unauthorized water use from the fire sprinkler system.
