Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the integrated flood sensor. Without this kit, the flood sensor operates as a passive component and will not communicate with other devices.
  • Connection kit options include those for BMS (Building Management Systems), cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi. A retrofit kit is also available for existing installations.

Main Valve Connections

This 4 inch assembly is equipped with domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves that feature flanged connections for installation into your pipeline system.

Additional Details

The Colt LFC500 Lead Free Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly, 4 inch with domestic OSY shutoff valves and a flood sensor, protects potable water systems from contamination due to backsiphonage and backpressure.

It is commonly used in health-hazard cross-connection applications, such as fire sprinkler systems, to prevent the reverse flow of non-potable water into the potable water supply. This assembly also monitors unauthorized water use and features a flood sensor to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.

Design & Construction

  • Features an extremely compact design, up to 70% lighter than traditional designs.
  • Constructed with a Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for durability.
  • Includes two independent Link Check modules and a differential pressure relief valve, all contained within an accessible single housing.
  • Equipped with domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves.
  • Groove fittings allow for integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Patented link checks ensure lowest pressure loss and feature reversible elastomer discs.
  • Includes a corrosive resistant bottom-mounted pressure relief valve.
  • Furnished with a gallons per minute meter in the bypass assembly to detect leaks and unauthorized water usage.
  • Unmatched ease of serviceability with replaceable check disc rubber.

Flood Monitoring & Alerts

  • Integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • When activated by an add-on sensor connection kit, the sensor relays alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Supervisory Features

  • Includes an integrated supervisory switch as an option on each gate valve of the OSY model.
  • The supervisory switch activates within two (2) turns from open to indicate valve position.
  • Designed to send a tamper signal if the valve is closed or the switch is removed.

Installation must comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations. Thoroughly read all installation and product safety information before beginning installation. Inquire with governing authorities for local installation requirements. Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need for proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Colt LFC500 Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly?

Its primary function is to protect potable water systems from contamination caused by backsiphonage and backpressure. It is commonly used in health-hazard applications, such as fire sprinkler systems, to prevent non-potable water from entering the clean water supply.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are made from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Elastomers include EPDM, silicone, and Buna-N. Link checks are Noryl® and stainless steel, while check discs are reversible silicone or EPDM. Test cocks are Lead Free* bronze.

How does the integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology work?

The flood sensor on the relief valve detects excessive water discharges. When activated by an add-on sensor connection kit, it relays a signal that triggers multichannel alerts (call, email, text) to notify personnel of potential flooding events.

What are the main approvals and certifications for the LFC500 series?

This assembly is approved by FCCCHR-USC, AWWA C511-97, ASSE 1047, CSA B64.4, UL Classified, FM Approved, and NSF Certified to NSF/ANSI 372. These certifications ensure compliance with national plumbing codes and safety standards.

Does this 4 inch model include a water meter?

Yes, this assembly comes furnished with a gallons per minute (GPM) meter within its bypass assembly. This meter is used to detect underground leaks and monitor for any unauthorized water usage from the fire sprinkler system.
