Flood Sensor Activation

  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's alert feature and enable communication with other devices.
  • Without this connection kit, the flood sensor functions as a passive component and will not relay alerts.
  • Connection kit options include a BMS interface, cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

This Colt™ 4 inch lead free reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly provides crucial protection to potable water systems. It is engineered to prevent the reverse flow of non-potable fire protection substances and water from being pumped or siphoned back into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure.

The compact modular design is approved for horizontal N pattern installation. This assembly features a stainless steel body with a quick access sleeve, torsion spring check valves, outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, and corrosive resistant bottom mounted pressure relief valve. It includes a cubic feet per minute (CFM) meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use. A built-in flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve, and when paired with an add-on connection kit, can relay alerts for potential flooding events.

Features

  • Extremely compact design, approximately 70% lighter than traditional designs
  • Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for durability
  • Groove fittings facilitate integral pipeline adjustment
  • Patented link check for lowest pressure loss
  • Unmatched ease of serviceability with replaceable check disc rubber
  • Bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve
  • Metered bypass (CFM meter) to detect leakage or theft of water from the fire sprinkler system
  • Sensor on the relief valve for flood detection with SentryPlus Alert® technology
  • Flood alert feature activated by an add-on sensor connection kit (sold separately)
  • Integrated supervisory switch on each gate valve of the OS&Y model

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Colt LFC500N-OSY-C-FS backflow preventer?

Its primary function is to protect potable water systems from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable substances from fire protection systems, which can occur due to backsiphonage or backpressure.

What does 'Lead Free' mean for this product?

For this product, 'Lead Free' signifies that the wetted surface which comes into contact with consumable water contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight, complying with national plumbing codes for potable water systems.

How does the integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology work?

The flood sensor is located on the relief valve and detects excessive water discharges. To activate its alert capabilities and communicate with other devices, an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required. Without this kit, the sensor remains a passive component.

What materials are used for the main housing and sleeve of this backflow preventer?

The main housing and sleeve of the Colt LFC500N-OSY-C-FS backflow preventer are constructed from durable Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel.

What are the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this assembly?

This backflow preventer assembly is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). Its operational temperature range is from 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C).
