Description

This Watts 6 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly (RPDA) backflow preventer prevents hazardous substances from fire protection systems from contaminating potable water supplies. It features a robust ArmorTek® epoxy-coated cast iron body for superior corrosion resistance and includes a Gallons per Minute (GPM) meter for leak detection. A built-in SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor monitors relief valve discharges, providing early warning for potential flooding when paired with an optional connection kit. The modular design simplifies maintenance, making this UL Classified and FM Approved assembly an efficient choice for health hazard applications. Item number 88009369.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Connectivity

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology is designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its notification features, an add-on connection kit is required (sold separately). These kits offer compatibility with various communication systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi. Without a connection kit, the sensor remains a passive component with no external communication.

Additional Details

This 6 inch Watts 909RPDA Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly backflow preventer is designed for health hazard applications, preventing the reverse flow of fire protection system substances into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure.

The assembly is supplied without shutoff valves, featuring an epoxy coated cast iron body, captured spring check valves, replaceable stainless steel seats, top mounted test cocks, and a pressure differential relief valve. It includes a gallon per minute (GPM) meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.

Advanced Protection

  • Features ArmorTek® coating technology, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system, engineered to reduce both microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and general corrosion of exposed metal surfaces.
  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve, preventing potential flooding.
  • An add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component with no communication.

Design & Maintenance

  • Modular check design facilitates maintenance and assembly access.
  • Replaceable stainless steel seats ensure durability and extend product life.
  • Compact design offers economy combined with performance.
  • No special tools required for maintenance.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer is designed for health hazard applications in fire protection systems. It prevents the reverse flow of non-potable substances, like glycerin wetting agents or stagnant water, from contaminating the public potable water supply.

Does this assembly come with shutoff valves?

No, this specific 909RPDA assembly (LF variant) is supplied without shutoff valves. It consists of the main backflow prevention components, a GPM meter, and a flood sensor.

What is ArmorTek® coating, and what are its benefits?

ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system applied to the cast iron body. It is engineered to reduce both microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and general corrosion of exposed metal surfaces, extending the product's lifespan.

How does the flood sensor work, and what is needed to activate its alert features?

The flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its notification capabilities for alerts, an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required. Without this kit, the sensor is passive.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature for this backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and a continuous temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
