Connections

  • This backflow preventer features groove fittings for both inlet and outlet connections, which simplify installation and allow for integral pipeline adjustment.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology is a passive component until an add-on connection kit is utilized. Activating the sensor for alert relays requires one of the following connection kit options:

  • BMS (Building Management System) communication
  • Cellular communication for remote alerts
  • Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

The Ames Fire & Waterworks Colt™ 6 inch reduced pressure zone (RPZ) backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and non-potable water into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure. This lead-free assembly is suitable for health hazard applications and continuous pressure piping, approved for horizontal Z-pattern installation.

This C400Z-BFG-FS model integrates a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When an add-on connection kit is used, the sensor activates to relay alerts, notifying personnel of potential flooding events.

Key Components

  • Stainless steel body with quick access sleeve for durability.
  • Two independent Link Check modules and a bottom-mounted differential pressure relief valve.
  • Grooved gear operated butterfly valves with tamper switches for shutoff.
  • Lead-Free* test cocks for easy maintenance.

Features & Benefits

  • Lead Free* construction, with wetted surfaces containing less than 0.25% lead by weight.
  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology for discharge detection.
  • Allows for integration with BMS, cellular communication, or Sensor Control Monitor (requires add-on kit).
  • Extremely compact design, up to 70% lighter than traditional models.
  • Durable Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve.
  • Groove fittings for integral pipeline adjustment and ease of installation.
  • Patented link check design for lowest pressure loss.
  • Unmatched ease of serviceability with torsion spring check modules and reversible check disc rubber.
  • Configurable for horizontal Z-pattern installation.
Note: An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this 6 inch reduced pressure zone (RPZ) backflow preventer?

This RPZ backflow preventer is designed to prevent the reverse flow of contaminated or non-potable water into the potable water supply, protecting against both backsiphonage and backpressure. It is used in health hazard and continuous pressure piping applications.

Does this backflow preventer include a flood sensor?

Yes, this assembly features an integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.

Is an additional component required for the flood sensor to send alerts?

Yes, an add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's alert relay capabilities. Without this kit, the flood sensor acts as a passive detection component only.

What types of connection options are available for the flood sensor alerts?

When paired with an add-on connection kit, the flood sensor can integrate with Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, or a Sensor Control Monitor for BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

What does "Lead Free" construction mean for this product?

"Lead Free" construction indicates that the wetted surfaces of this product, which come into contact with consumable water, contain less than 0.25% of lead by weight, complying with national plumbing codes.
