Additional Details

This Colt™ 6 inch reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from dangerous cross-connections. It prevents the reverse flow of fire protection substances and non-potable water into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure.

Primary Use

  • Ideal for health-hazard non-potable service applications such as fire sprinkler systems, irrigation, or industrial processing.
  • Monitors unauthorized use of water from the fire protection system.

Features

  • Features an extremely compact design, approximately 70% lighter than traditional designs.
  • Includes drip tight shutoff valves and groove couplings for easy installation and pipeline alignment.
  • Patented link check for lowest pressure loss and unmatched ease of serviceability.
  • Replaceable check disc rubber and bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve.
  • Equipped with a gallon per minute meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.

Flood Detection

  • Contains a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor, enabling it to relay signals for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Construction

  • 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for durability.
  • Lead Free* bronze body nickel plated test cocks.
  • Noryl® and stainless steel link checks with reversible silicone or EPDM check discs.
  • 300 Series stainless steel pins & fasteners and stainless steel springs.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Colt 6 inch C500 backflow preventer?

This assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable substances due to backsiphonage or backpressure, common in fire protection, irrigation, and industrial processing lines.

How does the flood sensor feature work?

The integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert capabilities, an add-on sensor connection kit is required, which can then relay signals for potential flooding events.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are constructed from durable 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Other components include EPDM, silicone, Buna 'N' elastomers, Noryl® link checks, and Lead Free* bronze body test cocks.

What type of connections does this assembly use?

This backflow preventer assembly is equipped with groove couplings for both the inlet and outlet connections. These allow for easy installation and pipeline alignment.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this device?

The assembly has a maximum operating pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and can operate within a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
