Description

This 6-inch Colt C500 Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer assembly safeguards potable water from contamination by non-potable water and fire protection substances. Featuring a durable 304 stainless steel housing and sleeve, it includes domestic OSY resilient seated gate valves and a bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve. The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive relief valve discharge, requiring an add-on connection kit for active alerts. Groove couplings ensure easy installation. This assembly is rated for 175 PSI working pressure and temperatures from 33°F to 140°F, carrying AWWA C511-97, ASSE 1047, CSA B64.4, cULus, and FM Approvals for critical health hazard cross-connection control.

Connections

  • The assembly features groove couplings for easy installation and integral pipeline adjustment.

Flood Sensor Activation

  • An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's alert features. Without this kit, the flood sensor acts as a passive component and does not communicate.
  • Compatible connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with building automation systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

This Colt™ 6 inch reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination.

It prevents the reverse flow of non-potable water and fire protection substances into the drinking water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure, making it ideal for cross-connections identified as health hazards, such as fire sprinkler systems and service line entrances.

A WARNING: It is illegal to use this product in a plumbing system providing water for human consumption, such as drinking or dishwashing, in the United States. Before installing this product, consult your local water authority, building and plumbing codes.

Key Components

  • Stainless steel body with quick access sleeve
  • Two independent Link Check modules
  • Domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves
  • Corrosion-resistant bottom-mounted pressure relief valve (cast stainless steel)
  • Gallons per minute meter for leak and unauthorized water use detection
  • Bronze body nickel plated test cocks (Lead Free*)

Flood Detection & Monitoring

  • Integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor for active alerts. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • Optional integrated supervisory switch on each gate valve.

Design & Performance

  • Extremely compact design, 70% lighter than traditional models.
  • 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve.
  • Groove couplings for easy installation and pipeline alignment.
  • Patented link check for lowest pressure loss.
  • Unmatched ease of serviceability with replaceable check disc rubber.
  • Suitable for horizontal, "Z" pattern horizontal, and "N" pattern horizontal configurations.

NOTICE: The use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge. Watts® is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the 6-inch C500-DOSY-G-FS backflow preventer?

Its primary function is to protect potable water supplies from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of non-potable water or fire protection substances, particularly in health-hazard cross-connections like fire sprinkler systems.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are made from 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. It features Noryl® and stainless steel link checks, reversible silicone or EPDM check discs, and Lead Free* bronze body test cocks.

How does the integrated flood sensor work, and what is needed to activate it?

The integrated flood sensor uses SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate its alert features; without this kit, the sensor operates passively.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this assembly?

This assembly has a maximum working pressure of 175 PSI (12.1 bar) and can operate within a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).

What are the key certifications and approvals for the Colt C500-DOSY-G-FS?

This backflow preventer is approved by FCCCHR-USC, and certified to AWWA C511-97, ASSE 1047, CSA B64.4, cULus Classified, and FM Approved standards.
