Sensor Connectivity

  • This Watts LF709-QT-FDA-IOT double check valve assembly features integrated pressure sensors that measure pressure fluctuations at test cocks No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4.
  • To activate these sensors and transmit data values, an add-on monitoring connection kit (sold separately) is required.
  • The connection kit communicates over a wired serial (RS-485) interface and is compatible with most Building Management Systems (BMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • This allows for remote monitoring and assessment of backflow assembly performance.

Additional Details

This 6 inch lead free double check valve backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water system, suitable for non-health hazard installations.

The Series LF709 features integrated Smart and Connected technology with pressure-sensing test cocks, ArmorTek® coating for enhanced corrosion resistance, and FDA epoxy coated quarter-turn ball valve shutoffs.

Construction & Design

  • Body Material: Fused epoxy coated cast iron for durability and corrosion resistance.
  • Coating: Utilizes ArmorTek®, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates.
  • Valve Type: Features FDA epoxy coated quarter-turn ball valves for reliable shutoff.
  • Check Design: Modular design concept facilitates complete maintenance and assembly, with captured spring assemblies for safety and easy servicing without special tools.
  • Seats: Equipped with replaceable stainless steel seats.

Smart & Connected Technology

  • Integrated Sensors: Includes pressure sensors at test cocks No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 to measure pressure fluctuations.
  • Monitoring Capability: Sensors can be activated with an add-on monitoring connection kit (sold separately) to collect, convert, and transmit data via a wired serial (RS-485) interface to Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS) for performance assessment and maintenance scheduling.

Use of integrated pressure sensors and monitoring connection kit does not replace compliance with all required installation, operation, and maintenance regulations. Watts is not responsible for data transmission failures due to power issues.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Watts 6 LF709-QT-FDA-IOT backflow preventer?

Its primary purpose is to prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from non-health hazard cross-connections into a potable water supply system, protecting the drinking water quality.

What does the "IOT" in the product name signify?

"IOT" signifies "Internet of Things" (Smart and Connected technology). This model includes integrated pressure sensors at test cocks that measure pressure fluctuations, allowing for performance monitoring when activated with an add-on connection kit.

What is ArmorTek® coating, and what benefits does it provide?

ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy system applied to the cast iron body and internal components. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, extending the lifespan of the assembly.

Does this backflow preventer require an additional kit for its monitoring features to work?

Yes, an add-on monitoring connection kit is required to activate the integrated pressure sensors and transmit data to a Building Management System (BMS) or Building Automation System (BAS). The sensors are passive without this kit.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this assembly?

This 6 inch double check valve assembly has a maximum operating pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). It is designed for continuous temperatures ranging from 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C - 43°C), with intermittent temperatures up to 140°F (60°C).
