Description

This 6 inch Watts LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer assembly protects potable water supplies from backsiphonage and backpressure cross-contamination in health hazard applications. It features a durable epoxy-coated cast iron body with ArmorTek® corrosion protection and domestic non-rising stem resilient seated gate valves. An integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive relief valve discharge, relaying alerts when paired with an add-on connection kit for enhanced monitoring via BMS, cellular, or Wi-Fi. Rated for 175 PSI maximum working pressure, this assembly meets ASSE 1013, AWWA C511-92, and CSA B64.4 standards. Item number 88009322.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • This Watts LF909 backflow preventer is equipped with a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor on the relief valve to detect excessive water discharges.
  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's alert features and enable communication. Without a connection kit, the sensor is a passive component.
  • Connection kit options allow compatibility with Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

This 6 inch lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly prevents the reverse flow of polluted water from entering into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is designed for protection in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards.

The assembly features an epoxy coated cast iron body, domestic non-rising stem resilient seated gate valves, captured spring check valves, replaceable seats, top mounted test cocks, and a field reversible pressure differential relief valve. The coating utilizes ArmorTek®, a patented 3-part advanced epoxy system engineered to limit both microbial induced (MIC) and exposed metal substrate corrosion.

Flood Sensor Features

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • When paired with an add-on connection kit, the sensor is activated to relay alerts for potential flooding events to facility personnel.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor which enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge. Watts is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

Additional Features

  • Replaceable seats and stainless steel internal parts for easy maintenance.
  • Captured spring check assemblies.
  • Fused epoxy coated and lined checks.
  • ArmorTek coating technology resists corrosion of internals.
  • Industrial-strength sensing hose.
  • Field reversible relief valve.
  • Air-in/water-out relief valve design provides maximum capacity during emergency conditions.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the 6 inch LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly?

The primary function is to prevent contaminated or polluted water from re-entering the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure, thereby protecting public health.

What kind of shutoff valves does this assembly include?

This assembly includes domestic non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves, which allow for manual control of water flow through the unit.

How does the ArmorTek® coating benefit this backflow preventer?

The ArmorTek® coating is a patented 3-part advanced epoxy system applied to the cast iron body and internal components. It is engineered to reduce microbial induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, enhancing durability and longevity.

What is the purpose of the integrated flood sensor?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When connected with an add-on kit, it can relay alerts to facility personnel or building management systems to prevent potential flooding and costly damage.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer has a maximum operating pressure of 175 PSI (12.06 bar). It can handle continuous temperatures from 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C) and intermittent temperatures up to 140°F (60°C).
