FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this 8 inch backflow preventer?

This 8 inch Double Check Detector Assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of non-potable fire protection system substances, such as glycerin wetting agents or stagnant water, into the potable water supply.

How does ArmorTek® coating protect the backflow preventer?

ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system applied to the cast iron body, both internally and externally. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates from electrochemical corrosion.

Does this backflow preventer help detect water leaks?

Yes, this assembly includes a gallons per minute metered 3/4 inch bypass. This feature helps to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use, which can lead to unaccountable water costs.

What certifications and approvals does this model have?

This Watts 709DCDA Series backflow preventer is UL Classified, FM Approved, meets ASSE 1048, AWWA Standard C510, and CSA B64.4. It is also approved by the Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research at the University of Southern California.

What type of shutoff valves are included with this assembly?

The backflow preventer comes equipped with domestic Outside Stem and Yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, which are also UL Classified and FM Approved.
