Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • The integrated flood sensor requires an **add-on connection kit** (sold separately) to become active and relay alerts.
  • Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component and cannot communicate with other devices.
  • Once activated, the sensor supports compatibility with **Building Management Systems (BMS)** and **cellular network communication**.
  • For enhanced integration, the sensor can connect with the **Sensor Control Monitor** to deliver maintenance alerts to **Building Automation Systems (BAS)** via **RS-485 Modbus** or the **Nexa® platform** through **Wi-Fi connectivity**.

Additional Details

This 8 inch reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly (RPDA) is designed for health hazard applications in fire protection systems. It prevents the reverse flow of substances like glycerin wetting agents, stagnant water, and non-potable water from entering the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure.

The assembly features a modular check design for simplified maintenance and is coated with **ArmorTek®**, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system, to resist **microbial-induced corrosion (MIC)** and protect exposed metal surfaces. It is equipped with **AWWA epoxy coated, UL Classified and FM Approved OSY resilient seated gate valves**, a **GPM meter** to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use, and ball type test cocks. A pressure differential relief valve is positioned between the check valves.

Flood Detection System

  • Includes a **flood sensor** with **SentryPlus Alert® technology** to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • The sensor is installed on the assembly exterior and does not affect assembly functions or certifications.
  • An add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the kit, the sensor acts as a passive component with no communication capabilities.
  • When activated with a connection kit, the sensor relays signals to facility personnel for corrective action, helping to limit flooding and costly damage.
  • The flood alert features can integrate with **BMS** and **cellular network communication**.
  • Integration with the **Sensor Control Monitor** enables alerts to **BAS** via **RS-485 Modbus** or the **Nexa® platform** through **Wi-Fi connectivity**.

FAQs

What is the primary use of this Watts 909RPDA backflow preventer?

This 8 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly (RPDA) is used in health hazard applications within fire protection systems to prevent the reverse flow of non-potable water, such as those containing glycerin wetting agents or stagnant water, into the potable water line.

How does the ArmorTek® coating benefit this backflow preventer?

The ArmorTek® coating is a patented three-part advanced epoxy system applied to the cast iron components. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrate, extending the life and reliability of the assembly.

What is the function of the flood sensor, and how is it activated?

The flood sensor, featuring SentryPlus Alert® technology, detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve, signaling potential flooding events. It is activated when paired with an add-on connection kit, which is sold separately.

What kind of meter is included with this assembly?

This backflow preventer is furnished with a Gallons Per Minute (GPM) meter. This meter can be used to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use within the system.

What are the maximum operating pressure and temperature for this unit?

This Watts 909RPDA backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). It can operate continuously within a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
