Description

This Colt 8 inch stainless steel reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly protects potable water systems from contamination due to backsiphonage and backpressure. It features a compact Type 304 stainless steel housing, domestic OSY resilient seated gate valves, and grooved couplings for easy horizontal installation. The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive relief valve discharges, and with an add-on connection kit, can trigger alerts via BMS, cellular, or Wi-Fi. It is lead-free compliant, UL Classified, FM Approved, ASSE 1013, CSA B64.4, and NSF 61-G certified. Designed for a maximum working pressure of 175 psi and temperatures from 33°F to 140°F.

Installation Orientation

  • This assembly is approved for horizontal installation.

Connections to Piping System

  • Features groove couplings for easy installation and integral pipeline adjustment with compatible grooved piping.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit (sold separately) for communication and alert functionality. Without this kit, the sensor operates as a passive component. Available connection kit options facilitate integration with Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication networks, or via the Sensor Control Monitor, enabling communication with Building Automation Systems (BAS) through RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

This Colt™ 8 inch stainless steel reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and water of non-potable quality from being pumped or siphoned into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and backpressure. This extremely compact and lighter-than-traditional assembly is approved for horizontal installation.

The assembly features a stainless steel body with a quick access sleeve, link check modules, domestic outside stem and yoke resilient seated gate valves, test cocks, and a bottom mounted pressure relief valve.

Flood Detection Features

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • When paired with an add-on connection kit (sold separately), the sensor is activated to relay alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options support BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

General Features

  • Extremely compact design allows for smaller enclosures.
  • Lighter than traditional designs for easier handling and installation.
  • Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for durability.
  • Groove couplings for easy installation and integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Torsion spring check modules for unmatched ease of serviceability and lowest pressure loss.
  • Drip tight shutoff valves ensure secure closure.
  • Reversible silicone or EPDM check disc rubber.
  • Includes an integrated supervisory switch as an option on each gate valve for the OS&Y model.

An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's communication features. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with other devices. Watts® is not responsible for alert failures due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.
