Installation Orientation

  • This assembly is approved for horizontal installation.

Connections

  • The flanged inlet connects to a matching flanged pipe.
  • The grooved outlet connects to a matching grooved pipe.

Flood Sensor Activation

The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on sensor connection kit (not included) for activation and to relay alerts for potential flooding events. This kit can enable connectivity via BMS, cellular communication, or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi or RS-485 Modbus for integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Additional Details

This Colt™ 8 inch lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and water of non-potable quality from being pumped or siphoned into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is ideal for protection in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards.

This assembly consists of a stainless steel body with a quick access sleeve, torsion spring check modules, OSY resilient seated gate valves with flanged inlet and grooved outlet, test cocks, and a bottom mounted pressure relief valve.

Flood Sensor Technology

  • Features a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • An add-on sensor connection kit (not included) is required to activate the flood sensor for relaying alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options can enable integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi, or offer cellular communication.

Design & Construction

  • Extremely compact design that is 70% lighter than traditional designs, allowing for smaller enclosures.
  • Housing and sleeve constructed from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel.
  • Features drip tight shutoff valves and reversible check disc rubber.
  • Includes groove couplings for easy installation and integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Patented link check design for lowest pressure loss and unmatched ease of serviceability.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this backflow preventer?

This 8-inch Colt C400 reduced pressure zone assembly is designed to protect potable water systems from contamination caused by backsiphonage or backpressure, specifically from fire protection substances and other non-potable water sources.

What type of connections does this assembly have?

This assembly features a flanged inlet for connection to a matching flanged pipe and a grooved outlet for connection to a matching grooved pipe system.

What does "Lead Free" mean for this product?

The "Lead Free" designation means that the wetted surface of this product, which comes into contact with consumable water, contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight, ensuring compliance with relevant lead-free installation requirements.

How does the integrated flood sensor work?

The flood sensor uses SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharge from the relief valve. To activate the sensor for relaying alerts (e.g., via call, email, text), an add-on connection kit, sold separately, is required.

What are the main materials used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are constructed from Type 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Elastomers include EPDM, silicone, and Buna 'N', while test cocks are made from Lead Free* bronze, and pins and fasteners are 300 Series stainless steel.
