Description

The Watts 8 inch LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Backflow Preventer Assembly provides crucial cross-connection control for potable water supplies, protecting against backsiphonage and backpressure. Featuring a durable cast iron body with ArmorTek® advanced epoxy coating for corrosion resistance, this lead-free assembly ensures long-term reliability. Its unique relief valve design uses an air-in/water-out principle for superior discharge performance during emergencies. Equipped with domestic OSY shutoff valves and a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect excessive water discharge, it offers enhanced protection and peace of mind. The sensor can be integrated with BMS or Wi-Fi via an add-on connection kit for active monitoring. Item number 88009348.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology requires an add-on connection kit to enable communication and activate alert features.
  • Connection kit options include those compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor.
  • The Sensor Control Monitor allows integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Without an add-on connection kit, the flood sensor functions as a passive component and does not communicate with other devices.

Additional Details

This 8 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is ideal for protection in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards.

Construction & Features

  • Features an epoxy coated cast iron body, domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, captured spring check valves, replaceable seats, top mounted test cocks, and a field reversible pressure differential relief valve.
  • The assembly incorporates ArmorTek® coating technology, a patented 3-part advanced epoxy system, engineered to limit both microbial induced corrosion (MIC) and exposed metal substrate corrosion of internals.
  • Equipped with an exclusive relief valve design utilizing the "air-in/water-out" principle, providing substantially improved discharge performance during emergency conditions of combined backsiphonage and backpressure.
  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When paired with an add-on connection kit, the sensor is activated to relay alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Flood sensor connectivity options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor which enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • Stainless steel internal parts and industrial-strength sensing hose ensure durability.
  • Designed for ease of maintenance with replaceable seats and no special tools required for servicing.

An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's communication features; without it, the sensor is a passive component with no communication to other devices. Always inquire with governing authorities for local installation requirements.

FAQs

What type of backflow prevention does the LF909 assembly provide?

The Watts LF909 is a Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) assembly designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination due to backsiphonage and backpressure, suitable for health hazard cross-connections.

What is ArmorTek® coating, and why is it important?

ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system applied to the cast iron body. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, enhancing the longevity of the backflow preventer.

How does the SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor work?

The SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When paired with an add-on connection kit, it relays alerts to facility personnel via BMS, cellular, or Wi-Fi for proactive monitoring and damage prevention.

Is this 8-inch backflow preventer suitable for all potable water applications?

This assembly is designed for use in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards to comply with national plumbing codes, ensuring the safety of potable water supplies.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature for this assembly?

The Watts 8 inch LF909 assembly has a maximum working pressure of 175 PSI (12.06 bar). It can operate continuously in temperatures ranging from 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C), with intermittent use up to 140°F (60°C).
