Description

This Watts 8 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly, Series LF909, is engineered to protect potable water from contamination caused by backsiphonage and backpressure. Its robust cast iron body features ArmorTek coating, a patented three-part epoxy system, to resist microbial-induced and exposed metal corrosion. An integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert technology detects excessive relief valve discharge, with alerts configurable via an add-on connection kit. The assembly features a unique air-in/water-out relief valve design for high discharge capacity and is supplied without shutoff valves. Item number 88009388.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • This assembly includes an integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect continuous discharge from the relief valve.
  • An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's alert features and enable communication.
  • Without a connection kit, the sensor operates as a passive component, providing no external communication or alerts.
  • Connection kit options include those compatible with BMS (Building Management Systems), cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor, which allows integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity.

Additional Details

This 8 inch lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination due to backsiphonage and backpressure. It is ideal for continuous pressure piping applications and installations where health hazards exist at cross-connections.

This LF909 series assembly features an epoxy coated cast iron body, captured spring check valves, replaceable seats, and top mounted test cocks. It incorporates a field reversible pressure differential relief valve with a unique air-in/water-out design for high capacity discharge during emergencies. The assembly is supplied without shutoff valves.

Corrosion Resistance

  • Features ArmorTek® coating technology, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system.
  • Engineered to reduce both microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and general exposed metal substrate corrosion.

Flood Detection

  • Includes an integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • The sensor provides passive flood detection; an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required to activate alert notifications.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer?

The primary function is to prevent the reverse flow of polluted water from entering the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure, protecting against health hazards at cross-connections.

What is ArmorTek coating and what are its benefits?

ArmorTek is a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system applied to the backflow preventer's iron components. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, extending the product's lifespan.

How does the integrated flood sensor work?

The flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. While passive on its own, when paired with an add-on connection kit, it can relay alerts via BMS, cellular communication, or Wi-Fi to facility personnel, helping to prevent costly flooding.

Does this 8-inch LF909 assembly include shutoff valves?

No, this specific LF909 model (LF configuration) is supplied without shutoff valves. Other configurations of the LF909 series may include them.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.06 bar). It is designed to operate continuously between 33°F (0.5°C) and 110°F (43°C), with an intermittent maximum temperature of 140°F (60°C).
