Description

The Febco 905-083 Series AGD air gap drain is a steel fitting designed for 2 1/2 to 10 inch Febco 825YD and 826YD reduced pressure backflow assemblies. Its primary function is to capture minor relief valve discharges caused by pressure fluctuations or check valve fouling, directing the water into a drain. This unit reduces splashing around the backflow assembly and conforms to air gap installation requirements. Constructed from corrosion-resistant steel with stainless steel fasteners, it ensures durability. The drain features a 2-inch Female NPT connection at the outlet for easy integration into a drain line.

Compatibility

  • Designed for installation on Febco Series 825YD and 826YD reduced pressure assemblies in sizes ranging from 2 1/2 inches to 10 inches.

Installation Notes

  • Attach the drain funnel directly to the relief port of the Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow device.
  • For 2 1/2 inch and larger sizes, replace the lower cover bolt on the backflow device with the longer bolt supplied in the kit. Use the supplied spacer with the funnel, positioning it over the protruding bolt end and securing it with the provided nut.
  • Connect a 2 inch male NPT drain line to the bottom of the air gap drain.
  • Important: Do not use the reduced pressure device to support the drain pipe weight. The drain funnel itself is also not designed to support drainpipe weight.

Additional Details

This Febco Series AGD air gap drain, specifically for 2 1/2 to 10 inch systems, is designed for use with reduced pressure backflow assemblies to catch minor relief valve discharge resulting from pressure fluctuations and/or minor check valve fouling. It efficiently funnels water into a drain, significantly reducing splashing in the area.

Features

  • Reduces the amount of water splashing around a reduced pressure assembly
  • Funnels minor relief valve discharge into a drain line
  • Conforms to air gap installation requirements
  • Designed to handle any normal discharge or nuisance spitting from the relief valve

Materials

  • Funnel: Corrosion resistant steel construction
  • Mounting Fastener: Stainless steel

This drain is intended to catch minor relief valve discharges. Under certain conditions, relief valves can discharge water at rates significantly greater than the drain capacity. This air gap drain is not designed to catch the maximum discharge possible from the relief valve and is not designed to support drainpipe weight. Consult local codes for installation requirements.

FAQs

What backflow assemblies is the Febco 905-083 air gap drain compatible with?

This air gap drain is designed for use with 2 1/2 inch to 10 inch Febco 825YD and 826YD Series reduced pressure backflow assemblies.

What is the primary purpose of this air gap drain?

The primary purpose is to catch minor relief valve discharge resulting from pressure fluctuations and/or minor check valve fouling, funneling it into a drain line to reduce splashing.

What material is the Febco 905-083 drain made from?

The funnel is constructed from corrosion-resistant steel, and the mounting fasteners are made of stainless steel.

What type of connection does this drain have for the drain line?

The outlet connection on the bottom of this air gap drain is a 2 inch Female NPT thread for connecting to a drain line.

Can this air gap drain handle maximum relief valve discharge?

No, this air gap drain is not designed to catch the maximum discharge possible from a relief valve during catastrophic failure. It is intended for normal discharge or nuisance spitting.
