The compact design allows for easy maintenance with a single access cover. An integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects relief valve discharges, requiring an add-on connection kit for active alerts and integration with building systems. It operates up to 175 psi and 180°F, meeting ASSE 1013, AWWA C511-92, and CSA B64.4 standards.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • To activate the sensor and relay alerts for potential flooding events, an add-on connection kit is required (sold separately).
  • Connection kit options include integration with Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor.
  • The Sensor Control Monitor enables integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component and has no communication with any other device.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts Series 009 RPZ backflow preventer?

Its primary function is to protect potable water supplies by preventing polluted water from flowing back into the clean water system due to backsiphonage or backpressure, in compliance with national plumbing codes.

How does the integrated flood sensor work, and what is required to activate it?

The flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate the sensor and enable it to relay alerts, an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required. Without the kit, the sensor is passive.

What types of connections does this backflow preventer have?

This 1/2 inch Watts Series 009 RPZ assembly features NPT (National Pipe Taper) inlet and outlet connections, along with quarter-turn, full-port, resilient-seated bronze ball valve shutoffs.

What are the operating pressure and temperature limits for this device?

This backflow preventer is suitable for supply pressures up to 175 psi (12.1 bar) and water temperatures ranging from 33°F to 180°F (0.5°C to 75°C).

Is this product suitable for use in all plumbing systems in the United States?

A warning states it is illegal to use this product in any plumbing system providing water for human consumption, such as drinking or dishwashing, in the United States. Before installing, it is crucial to consult local water authorities, building, and plumbing codes.
