Description

The 10 inch FEBCO MasterSeries LF880WZ is a lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly, designed to protect potable water systems from high hazard (toxic) backpressure and backsiphonage. This Z-pattern configured assembly provides a longer lay-length for seamless drop-in replacement of competitor valves, and comes without shutoff valves. Its ductile iron body is coated with ArmorTek® for superior corrosion resistance, while stainless steel internal components ensure durability. An integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology provides early detection of excessive relief valve discharge, enhancing system safety. This assembly is rated for 175 psi maximum working pressure and a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F.

Connections and Compatibility

This 10 inch MasterSeries® LF880WZ assembly is designed for drop-in replacement, featuring a longer gate-to-gate length compatible with competitor Z-pattern valves. Its end connections comply with ASME B16.1 Class 125 and AWWA Class D Flange standards.

Flood Sensor Activation

  • The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit (sold separately) for activation.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • Without a connection kit, the flood sensor acts as a passive component and will not communicate alerts.

Additional Details

This 10 inch lead free MasterSeries® reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly protects against high hazard (toxic) fluids in water services and industrial applications. It is designed for use in potable drinking water systems where local codes mandate protection from non-potable quality water being pumped or siphoned back into the potable system, guarding against both backpressure and backsiphonage conditions.

This assembly comes without shutoff valves and features a longer gate-to-gate length, allowing for a direct drop-in replacement for competitor Z-pattern valves. The body is constructed from ductile iron and coated with ArmorTek®, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system, to reduce microbial-induced corrosion and protect exposed metal surfaces. Key internal components include a stainless steel relief valve seat and stainless steel check components for maximum performance and durability.

Integrated Flood Sensor

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • The sensor relays a signal to trigger a multichannel alert (call, email, text) to notify personnel of potential flooding.
  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and does not communicate with other devices. Watts® is not responsible for alert failures due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

Design and Serviceability

  • Composed of a main line valve body with a pressure differential relief valve located between two independently acting clapper style check modules.
  • Features replaceable seats and disc rubbers for extended valve life.
  • Servicing the pressure differential relief valve and both check modules does not require any special tools.
  • Inline serviceable assembly allows for easy maintenance.

FAQs

What is the primary function of this backflow preventer?

This 10 inch FEBCO MasterSeries LF880WZ reduced pressure zone assembly is designed to protect potable drinking water systems from contamination by high hazard (toxic) fluids due to backpressure or backsiphonage. It ensures water safety in industrial and commercial installations.

Does this assembly include shutoff valves?

No, this specific LF880WZ-LG RP-FS model is configured "Less Shutoff Valves" (LG). Shutoff valves must be sourced separately if required for your installation.

How does the flood sensor work, and what is required to activate it?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert functionality (e.g., call, email, text), an add-on connection kit (BMS, cellular, or Sensor Control Monitor) must be purchased separately.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and relief valve body are made from ductile iron Grade 65-45-12, coated with ArmorTek® for corrosion resistance. Key internal components like the relief valve seat, check seats, disc holder, and springs are stainless steel, with silicone elastomer discs.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this device?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and a continuous operating temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
