Assembly Orientation and Connections

  • This is an N-pattern assembly (LF886W) designed for horizontal installations.
  • It features domestic OSY (Outside Stem & Yoke) shutoff valves for connection to your main piping system.
  • The assembly is built with a longer gate-to-gate length to facilitate a direct drop-in replacement for many competitor’s valves, particularly those in a Z-pattern configuration.
  • End connections are compliant to ASME B16.1 Class 125 and AWWA Class D Flange standards.

Flood Sensor Activation

The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit to be activated. Without this kit, the sensor operates as a passive component and will not communicate alerts regarding potential flooding from the relief valve discharge. Connection kit options include those for BMS (Building Management Systems), cellular network communication, or integration with the Sensor Control Monitor for BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

This 10 inch lead free MasterSeries® Reduced Pressure Zone Detector Assembly (RPDA) helps protect against high hazard (toxic) fluids in water services for industrial installations and applications. This N-pattern assembly, model LF886W, features a longer lay-length for drop-in replacement of competitor’s Z-pattern valves and includes domestic Outside Stem and Yoke (OSY) shutoff valves. It consists of a durable ductile iron body, replaceable stainless steel check seats, a cubic feet per minute (CFM) metered bypass, and ball valve test cocks. Improved with a stainless-steel relief valve seat, these rugged assemblies offer enhanced dependability and extended valve life.

This backflow assembly contains a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When paired with an add-on connection kit, the sensor is activated to relay alerts for potential flooding events.

Main Valve Features

  • Stainless steel relief valve seat and stainless steel check components for maximum performance and durability
  • Longer gate-to-gate length for drop-in replacement of longer valves
  • Inline serviceable assembly; no special tools required
  • Captured modular spring assembly
  • Reversible and replaceable discs
  • Field replaceable seats
  • Ductile iron valve body design
  • ArmorTek® coating technology to resist corrosion of internals
  • Modular and repairable pressure differential relief valve
  • Clapper check assembly
  • Captured O-ring design
  • Sensor on relief valve for flood detection, activated by add-on connection kit for BMS or cellular network communication

Auxiliary Bypass Features

  • Compact design; remains in main valve assembly profile
  • Inline serviceable 3/4" check assembly; no special tools required
  • No special tools required for servicing
  • Field replaceable seat and disc
  • Detect potential underground water leaks
  • Detect unauthorized water usage
  • Cubic feet per minute (CFM) metered bypass

An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component that does not communicate with any other device.

FAQs

What is a Reduced Pressure Zone Detector Assembly (RPDA) and its primary use?

A Reduced Pressure Zone Detector Assembly (RPDA) is a backflow prevention device designed to protect potable water systems from contamination by high-hazard (toxic) non-potable water. This 10 inch LF886W model is used primarily in industrial installations where local codes mandate protection from non-potable quality water being pumped or siphoned back into the potable system. It also detects leaks or unauthorized water usage in the bypass line.

What is the purpose of the integrated flood sensor?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve, signaling potential flooding events. It requires an add-on connection kit to activate the alert system, which can communicate via BMS, cellular networks, or Wi-Fi through the Nexa® platform.

What does 'Lead Free' mean for this assembly?

The 'Lead Free' designation means that the wetted surfaces of this product that come into contact with consumable water contain less than 0.25% lead by weight. This construction complies with low lead installation requirements and relevant state codes and standards.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and relief valve body are made of Ductile Iron Grade 65-45-12, protected with ArmorTek® powder coating on both internal and external surfaces. Key internal components like check seats, relief valve seat, disc holder, and springs are stainless steel, while the elastomer discs are made of silicone. The shutoff valves are resilient wedge gate valves.

Can this assembly replace other backflow preventers?

Yes, the FEBCO MasterSeries LF886W/WZ RPDA is designed for drop-in replacement of competitor's valves. It offers a longer gate-to-gate length and is available in both N-pattern (LF886W) and Z-pattern (LF886WZ) orientations to accommodate existing installations. This specific model, LF886W, is an N-pattern assembly.
