Description

The Watts 2 1/2 inch 909RPDA Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly is a backflow preventer designed for health hazard applications in fire protection systems. It prevents reverse flow of non-potable substances into potable water lines. Featuring a durable epoxy-coated cast iron body with patented ArmorTek® technology for corrosion resistance, this assembly includes OSY gate valves, check valves, a pressure differential relief valve, and a GPM meter for leak detection. A flood sensor provides notification for excessive water discharge. It operates within 33°F to 140°F and has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi. Item number 0387454.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit (sold separately) for activation.
  • Without the connection kit, the sensor operates as a passive component and does not communicate with other devices.
  • Once activated, flood alerts are compatible with BMS (Building Management Systems) and cellular network communication.

Drain Line Installation

  • For proper drainage, use Watts Series 909 air gaps when installing a drain line on this Model 909 backflow preventer.

Additional Details

The Watts 2 1/2 inch 909RPDA Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly Backflow Preventer with OSY Shutoff and GPM Meter is designed for health hazard applications, preventing reverse flow of fire protection system substances into potable water supplies due to backsiphonage or backpressure.

This backflow preventer is ideal for continuous pressure piping applications and cross-connections identified as health hazards.

Construction & Features

  • Features a robust epoxy coated cast iron body, OSY (Outside Stem and Yoke) resilient seated gate valves, and captured spring check valves.
  • Includes replaceable seats, top-mounted test cocks, and a pressure differential relief valve.
  • Comes furnished with a Gallons Per Minute (GPM) meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • Incorporates ArmorTek® coating technology, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system, to resist microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates.
  • A flood sensor is included to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve, providing notification to facility personnel for corrective action.
  • The unique relief valve design uses an air-in/water-out principle to prevent potential backflow efficiently.

NOTICE: An add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component that has no communication with any other device.

FAQs

What is the primary use of the Watts 2 1/2 inch 909RPDA backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer is primarily used in health hazard applications for fire protection systems, preventing the reverse flow of non-potable substances like glycerin or stagnant water into the potable water supply.

What type of coating is used on the backflow preventer's body, and what are its benefits?

The backflow preventer features a fused epoxy coated cast iron body with ArmorTek®, a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system. This coating is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates.

Does this assembly include a meter, and what is its function?

Yes, the assembly is furnished with a Gallons Per Minute (GPM) meter. This meter is used to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water usage within the system.

What is the purpose of the flood sensor, and how is it activated?

The flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve, triggering notifications to facility personnel for corrective action to limit flooding and damage. An add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required to activate the sensor's communication features.

What are the operating pressure and temperature limits for this Watts 909RPDA model?

This model has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and can operate continuously within a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
