Additional Details

This 2 1/2 inch lead free reduced pressure zone assembly backflow preventer is designed to stop the reverse flow of liquids due to backpressure or backsiphonage, particularly where a potential health hazard exists.

Its compact modular design allows for easy maintenance with a single access cover for in-line repairs. This assembly features a short lay length stainless steel body, test cocks, a corrosion-resistant stainless steel bottom-mounted relief valve, torsion spring check valves, and resilient seated gate valves with non-rising stem.

Flood Sensor Technology

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor; without it, the sensor is a passive component that does not communicate with any other device.
  • When paired with a connection kit, the sensor relays alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor which enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • The sensor is installed on the assembly exterior and does not alter assembly functions or certifications.

Features

  • Stainless steel construction provides long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength.
  • Stainless steel body is half the weight of competitive designs, reducing installation and shipping costs.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions make retrofit easy.
  • Bottom mounted relief valve reduces clearance requirements when installed against an outside wall.
  • Torsion spring check valves provide maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • Thermoplastic and stainless steel check valves for trouble-free operation.
  • No special tools required for servicing.
  • Compact construction allows for smaller enclosures.
  • Stainless steel relief valve features a balanced rolling diaphragm to eliminate sliding seals and lower maintenance costs.
  • Non-rising stem resilient seated gate valves.

Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge. Watts is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts Series 994 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly?

This assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination caused by backpressure or backsiphonage, particularly in health hazard cross-connection applications.

Does the flood sensor on this backflow preventer provide active alerts out of the box?

No, an add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's alert features. Without this kit, the flood sensor is a passive component that does not communicate with any external device.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel for corrosion resistance and maximum strength. The check assembly uses Noryl®.

What are the temperature and pressure limits for this assembly?

This backflow preventer has a continuous temperature range of 33°F-110°F (0.5°C - 43°C) and a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar).

Is special tooling required for servicing this backflow preventer?

No, the Watts Series 994 is designed for easy maintenance and does not require any special tools for servicing, allowing for straightforward in-line repairs.
