Additional Details
This 2 1/2 inch lead free MasterSeries LF860 reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to protect potable water systems against backpressure and backsiphonage from high hazard (toxic) fluids in industrial and other applications.
It features an epoxy coated ductile iron body, domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, test cocks, spring-loaded check valves, and a pressure differential relief valve.
Advanced Corrosion Protection
- The ductile iron body and internal components are coated with ArmorTek®, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates.
- Stainless steel relief valve seat and stainless steel check components provide maximum performance and durability.
Flood Detection and Alerting
- Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
- When paired with an add-on connection kit (sold separately), the sensor is activated to relay alerts for potential flooding events via multichannel alerts (call, email, text).
- Connection kit options allow integration with Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, or a Sensor Control Monitor for BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
Design and Maintenance
- Lead free construction complies with low lead installation requirements.
- Inline serviceable assembly requires no special tools for maintenance.
- Features a captured modular spring assembly, reversible and replaceable discs, field replaceable seats, and captured O-ring design.
- Equipped with domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) gate valves.

FAQs
What is the primary function of this backflow preventer?
This backflow preventer is designed to protect potable drinking water systems from contamination due to backpressure and backsiphonage of high hazard (toxic) fluids, often mandated by local water utility codes.
What is ArmorTek® coating and why is it important?
ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy system applied to the ductile iron body and internal components. It's engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, significantly extending the product's lifespan.
How does the flood sensor work and what is required to activate it?
The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert capabilities (calls, emails, texts), an add-on connection kit, such as a BMS, cellular, or Sensor Control Monitor kit, must be purchased separately.
What type of shutoff valves are included with this assembly?
This assembly comes with domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, which are UL Classified and FM Approved.
What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this device?
The maximum working pressure for this 2 1/2 inch LF860 backflow preventer is 175 psi (12.1 bar), and it can operate continuously in a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
