Description

This 2 1/2 inch Watts Series LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly provides critical cross-connection control for potable water supplies. It features durable cast iron construction with ArmorTek® coating for enhanced corrosion resistance and includes domestic non-rising stem (NRS) shutoff valves. The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges, providing critical alerts when paired with an add-on connection kit. Rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 psi and compliant with Lead Free* requirements, it is ideal for continuous pressure health hazard applications. Item number 88009319.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Activation

  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component that has no communication with any other device.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor which enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Installation Considerations

  • The installation of a drain line is recommended. When installing a drain line, an air gap is necessary.
  • This assembly is suitable for health hazard cross-connections and containment at the service line entrance.

Additional Details

This 2 1/2 inch lead free reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly prevents the reverse flow of polluted water into the potable water supply. It is ideal for protection in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards, specifically designed for combined backsiphonage and backpressure with both checks fouled.

Advanced Backflow Protection

  • Features a unique “air-in/water-out” relief valve design for substantially improved discharge performance during emergency conditions of combined backsiphonage and backpressure, even with fouled checks.
  • Designed to provide cross-connection control protection in accordance with national plumbing codes, suitable for health hazard cross-connections and containment at service line entrances.

Durable Construction & Materials

  • Iron components and body are coated with ArmorTek®, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system, engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrate.
  • Constructed with a cast iron body (check valve body and relief valve body for 4"-10" sizes), and Lead Free* cast copper silicon alloy for 2 1/2"-3" relief valve bodies.
  • Includes domestic non-rising stem resilient seated gate valves.
  • Internal components include captured spring check valves, replaceable seats, and stainless steel internal parts and trim.

Smart Flood Detection

  • Includes an external flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • Relays signals for notification to facility personnel for corrective action, helping to limit flooding and costly damage when paired with an add-on connection kit.

Lead Free Compliance

  • Complies with Lead Free* installation requirements; the wetted surfaces of this product contacted by consumable water contain less than 0.25% of lead by weight.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this backflow preventer assembly?

This 2 1/2 inch Watts Series LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination caused by backsiphonage or backpressure, particularly in health hazard cross-connections.

What does the ArmorTek® coating do for this assembly?

The ArmorTek® coating is a patented three-part advanced epoxy system applied to the cast iron body and components. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrate, enhancing the assembly's durability and lifespan.

How does the integrated flood sensor work?

The external flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When connected with an add-on kit, it can relay signals for notification to facility personnel, helping to limit flooding and costly damage.

What are the shutoff valves on this model?

This assembly features domestic non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves. These valves provide reliable isolation and control for the backflow preventer.

Is this backflow preventer compliant with lead-free requirements?

Yes, the Watts Series LF909 assembly is constructed with Lead Free* materials, meaning the wetted surfaces that contact consumable water contain less than 0.25% lead by weight, complying with Lead Free* installation requirements.
