Description

The Watts 2 1/2 inch LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly is designed for cross-connection control to prevent polluted water from entering potable water supplies. This Lead Free* assembly protects against backsiphonage and backpressure in continuous pressure piping and health hazard applications. It features a patented air-in/water-out relief valve for high discharge capacity during emergencies. The cast iron body is protected by ArmorTek® advanced epoxy coating to resist microbial-induced corrosion. A built-in flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharge, signaling potential issues when connected with an add-on kit. This model is supplied without shutoff valves.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • This backflow preventer assembly features a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges.
  • To enable flood alerts and communication, an add-on sensor connection kit is required.
  • The connection kit allows compatibility with Building Management Systems (BMS) and cellular network communication.
  • Without the add-on connection kit, the flood sensor operates as a passive component and does not communicate alerts.

Additional Details

The Watts Series LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly with flood sensor provides cross-connection control protection for potable water supplies, preventing reverse flow of polluted water caused by backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is ideal for continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards.

This 2 1/2 inch assembly features Lead Free* construction and is designed without shutoff valves.

Corrosion Protection

  • Features ArmorTek® coating technology, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system.
  • Engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrate.
  • Coating is applied to both internal and external surfaces of the cast iron body.

Relief Valve Design

  • Unique patented air-in/water-out relief valve design provides maximum discharge capacity during emergency conditions.
  • Designed for superior performance when both checks are fouled under combined backsiphonage and backpressure.
  • The relief valve is field reversible.

Flood Detection

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • The sensor relays a signal that triggers notification to facility personnel for corrective action, helping to limit flooding and costly damage.
  • Alert features are activated with an add-on sensor connection kit, which is compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS) and cellular network communication.
  • Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component with no communication capabilities.

Key Features

  • Equipped with replaceable seats and stainless steel internal parts.
  • Features captured spring check assemblies.
  • Fused epoxy coated and lined checks enhance durability.
  • Industrial-strength sensing hose included.
  • No special tools are required for servicing.

*The wetted surface of this product contacted by consumable water contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts LF909 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly?

Its primary function is to protect potable water supplies from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of polluted water due to backsiphonage or backpressure, in accordance with national plumbing codes.

Does this 2 1/2 inch LF909 assembly include shutoff valves?

No, this specific 2 1/2 inch LF909 assembly is supplied without shutoff valves, making it suitable for applications where external shutoffs are provided or not required.

What is ArmorTek® coating and what are its benefits?

ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system applied to the cast iron body. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates from corrosion.

How does the flood sensor work, and what is required to activate its alert features?

The flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert features and enable communication, an add-on sensor connection kit is required.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature for this backflow preventer?

The maximum working pressure for this assembly is 175 psi (12.06 bar). It can operate continuously in temperatures ranging from 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C), with intermittent operation up to 140°F (60°C).
