Description

This 2 1/2 inch Ames 4000SS Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly features Domestic Non-Rising Stem (NRS) shutoff valves and an integrated flood sensor. It is designed to protect potable water supplies from health hazard cross-connections by preventing backsiphonage and backpressure of contaminated water. Key features include a lightweight, corrosion-resistant 300 Series stainless steel body, patented cam-check valves for maximum flow, and a stainless steel relief valve. The SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharge, and with an add-on kit, can notify personnel via BMS, cellular, Modbus, or Wi-Fi to prevent flooding. Rated for 175 psi and 33-110°F.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Activation

  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the integrated flood sensor and enable communication.
  • Without the connection kit, the flood sensor functions as a passive component with no communication.

Connectivity Options

  • The flood sensor can integrate with BMS (Building Management Systems) via cellular communication.
  • Alternatively, the Sensor Control Monitor enables integration with BAS (Building Automation Systems) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity.

Additional Details

This 2 1/2 inch stainless steel reduced pressure zone backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of contaminated water of non-potable quality from being pumped or siphoned into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure. It is ideal for protection at cross-connections identified as health hazard applications and from other contaminants found at the service line entrance.

Features

  • Features a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect continuous discharge from the relief valve.
  • An add-on sensor connection kit is available to extend flood monitoring and activate the sensor for compatible assemblies.
  • Integrates with the Sensor Control Monitor to deliver maintenance alerts to BAS (Building Automation Systems) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform by Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Stainless steel construction provides long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength.
  • Stainless steel body is half the weight of competitive designs, reducing installation and shipping costs.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions make retrofitting easy.
  • Cam-check assembly provides maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • No special tools required for servicing.
  • Compact construction allows for smaller enclosures.
  • Stainless steel relief valve features a balanced rolling diaphragm to eliminate sliding seals and lower maintenance costs.
  • A sensor is located on the relief valve for flood detection.
  • Flood alert feature activated with an add-on sensor connection kit, compatible with BMS and cellular network communication.

Construction

  • This compact and short lay length design with a single access cover consists of a lightweight stainless steel body, domestic non-rising stem resilient seated gate valves, spring loaded cam-check valves, a pressure differential relief valve, and test cocks.
  • All internal metal parts are 300 Series stainless steel.
  • The main valve body is 300 Series stainless steel.
  • The check assembly is made of Noryl®.
  • The differential relief valve is of stainless steel construction and utilizes a rolling diaphragm with no sliding seals.
  • Flange dimensions are in accordance with AWWA Class D.

Flood Sensor System

  • This backflow assembly contains a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • When paired with an add-on connection kit, the sensor is activated to relay alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor which enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component that has no communication with any other device.
  • Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of this backflow preventer?

This 2 1/2 inch Reduced Pressure Zone assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination. It prevents the reverse flow of non-potable water due to backsiphonage or backpressure from entering the clean water system, especially at health hazard cross-connections.

What material is the main body constructed from?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel. This provides long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength while being lighter than competitive designs.

How does the integrated flood sensor function?

The assembly includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology that detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert features and enable communication, an add-on connection kit is required.

What are the connectivity options for the flood sensor alerts?

When paired with an add-on connection kit, the flood sensor can relay alerts via BMS (Building Management Systems) or cellular communication. Alternatively, with a Sensor Control Monitor, it integrates with BAS (Building Automation Systems) using RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi.

What type of shutoff valves are included with this assembly?

This assembly comes with domestic non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves. These valves allow for isolation of the backflow preventer for maintenance or testing.
