Description

The AMES 2 1/2 inch Series 5000SS Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer is designed to protect potable water supplies from cross-contamination in non-potable applications like firelines and industrial processing. Constructed with a 300 Series stainless steel body and Noryl check assemblies, it offers excellent corrosion resistance and durability. This assembly features domestic outside stem and yoke gate valves and a cubic feet per minute (CFM) metered bypass to detect leaks. An integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects relief valve discharges, providing alerts when connected to an optional kit for BMS or cellular communication.

Flood Sensor Activation & Integration

  • An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's alert features. Without this kit, the flood sensor acts as a passive component and will not communicate with other devices.
  • Connection kit options include those compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS) and cellular network communication.
  • The Sensor Control Monitor enables integration with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS‑485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • A retrofit sensor connection kit is also available for existing installations.

Additional Details

This 2 1/2 inch stainless steel reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and non-potable water into potable water supplies due to backsiphonage or backpressure. It is used in health hazard applications for systems such as irrigation, fireline, or industrial processing.

It is illegal to use this product in any plumbing system providing water for human consumption, such as drinking or dishwashing, in the United States. Before installing standard material product, consult your local water authority, building and plumbing codes.

Construction & Design

  • Features a compact modular design with a short lay length.
  • Main valve body manufactured from 300 Series stainless steel for corrosion resistance and maximum strength.
  • Check assemblies are thermoplastic cam-check valves with stainless steel hinge pins, cam arm, and cam bearing, providing maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • Stainless steel relief valve features a balanced rolling diaphragm to eliminate sliding seals and lower maintenance costs.
  • Bottom-mounted relief valve reduces clearance requirements when installed against an outside wall.
  • All internal parts are 300 Series stainless steel.
  • Domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves are included.
  • No special tools are required for servicing.

Flood Detection System

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect continuous or excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • The sensor relays a signal that triggers notification to facility personnel for corrective action, thus limiting flooding and costly damage.
  • Flood alert feature is activated with an add-on sensor connection kit (sold separately) for compatibility with BMS and cellular network communication.
  • Sensor Control Monitor integrates smart devices with BAS via RS‑485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Bypass Line Features

  • Equipped with a cubic feet per minute (CFM) metered bypass line to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • The bypass line includes a small diameter reduced pressure zone assembly and isolation valves.
