Connections & Activation

  • This assembly features domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves.
  • The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit (sold separately) for active monitoring and alert functionality.
  • Connection kit options include interfaces for BMS (Building Management Systems), cellular communication, RS-485 Modbus, or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi. Without a connection kit, the sensor is passive.
  • Flange dimensions are in accordance with AWWA Class D.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Ames Series 5000SS backflow preventer?

The primary purpose is to protect potable drinking water supplies from contamination by preventing the reverse flow of hazardous materials due to backsiphonage or backpressure in non-potable applications like fireline, irrigation, or industrial processing.

Is this backflow preventer suitable for drinking water systems in the United States?

No, it is illegal to use this product in any plumbing system providing water for human consumption, such as drinking or dishwashing, in the United States. It is intended for non-potable applications.

How does the flood sensor feature work, and what is required to activate it?

The flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert functionality, an add-on sensor connection kit (sold separately) is required, which enables communication with BMS, cellular networks, RS-485 Modbus, or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi.

What materials are used in the construction of the Series 5000SS?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The check assemblies are made from Noryl®, and the relief valve is also stainless steel with a balanced rolling diaphragm.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this assembly?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). The operational temperature range is 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C).
