Description

The Ames 5000SS 2 1/2 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer Assembly protects potable water supplies from hazardous cross-connections. Featuring a durable 300 Series stainless steel body and UL/FM approved OSY gate valves, it's ideal for non-potable services like firelines or industrial processing. A built-in flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects continuous relief valve discharge, while a CFM meter monitors leaks and unauthorized water use. Its compact, lightweight design with short end-to-end dimensions simplifies installation and retrofitting. Operates up to 175 psi across a 33°F to 110°F temperature range.

Help Me Connect

This Ames Series 5000SS Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly is designed for cross-connection control in non-potable service applications such as irrigation, fireline, or industrial processing.

Its flood sensor can be activated with an add-on sensor connection kit to relay alerts. Connection kit options include BMS (Building Management Systems), cellular communication, or integration with BAS (Building Automation Systems) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity.

Additional Details

This 2 1/2 inch Ames Series 5000SS Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer Assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and non-potable water into potable water supplies due to backsiphonage and/or backpressure.

It is ideal for protection in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards and from other contaminants found at the service line entrance.

WARNING: It is illegal to use this product in any plumbing system providing water for human consumption, such as drinking or dishwashing, in the United States. Before installing, consult your local water authority, building and plumbing codes.

Design and Construction

  • Features a compact modular design with a lightweight stainless steel body for long-term corrosion resistance, maximum strength, and reduced installation costs.
  • Equipped with UL and FM Approved OSY (Outside Stem and Yoke) resilient seated gate valves.
  • Incorporates thermoplastic cam-check valves with stainless steel hinge pins, cam arm, and cam bearing, designed for maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • The stainless steel relief valve is bottom-mounted, features a balanced rolling diaphragm to eliminate sliding seals, and minimizes maintenance costs and clearance requirements.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions facilitate easy retrofits.

Advanced Monitoring

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect continuous discharge from the relief valve, preventing costly damage.
  • Furnished with a cubic feet per minute (CFM) meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • The flood alert feature can be activated with an add-on sensor connection kit, compatible with BMS and cellular network communication, or integrated with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

FAQs

What is the primary application of the Ames 5000SS backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer is designed for non-potable service applications such as irrigation, firelines, or industrial processing to protect drinking water supplies from dangerous cross-connections caused by backsiphonage or backpressure.

What type of valves are included with this assembly?

The assembly includes UL Classified and FM Approved OSY (Outside Stem and Yoke) resilient seated gate valves for reliable shutoff.

How does the flood sensor function?

The flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When paired with an add-on connection kit, it relays alerts to facility personnel or integrates with monitoring systems to prevent costly damage.

What materials are used in the construction of the 5000SS assembly?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance and strength. The check assembly is made of Noryl®.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this device?

The Ames 5000SS can operate at a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). Its temperature range is 33°F – 110°F (0.5°C – 43°C).
