Additional Details

This 2 1/2 inch Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) assembly backflow preventer, Watts Series 957, protects potable water systems from contamination in health hazard applications, preventing reverse flow due to backpressure or backsiphonage. It features an extremely compact design and is 70% lighter than traditional designs, allowing for smaller enclosures and horizontal Z-pattern installation.

Key Features

  • Includes a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor with technology to detect continuous discharge from the relief valve.
  • An add-on sensor connection kit can extend flood monitoring on compatible assemblies.
  • Integrates with the Sensor Control Monitor to deliver maintenance alerts to BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform by Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • Features non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves.
  • UL and FM approved outside stem and yoke resilient seated gate valves.
  • Constructed with a 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve.
  • Designed for horizontal Z-pattern installation.
  • Features replaceable check disc rubber.
  • Equipped with a bottom mounted cast stainless steel relief valve.
  • Groove couplings for ease of installation and pipe alignment.
  • Patented torsion spring checks provide lowest pressure loss.
  • Unmatched ease of serviceability.

NOTICE: An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component that has no communication with any other device. Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts Series 957 RPZ assembly?

Its primary function is to protect potable water systems from contamination caused by backpressure or backsiphonage. It is commonly used in health hazard applications to maintain water quality.

What type of shutoff valves does this particular Series 957 model use?

This model utilizes non-rising stem (NRS) resilient seated gate valves for reliable shutoff control. These valves are designed for durability and ease of operation.

How does the SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor function on this backflow preventer?

The integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When paired with an optional add-on connection kit, it can relay alerts to facility personnel or integrate with building management systems via Modbus or Wi-Fi for remote monitoring.

What materials are used for the main housing and internal components?

The housing and sleeve are constructed from durable 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Internal elastomers are EPDM, silicone, and Buna-N, while test cocks feature a Lead Free* bronze body.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this device?

This backflow preventer is rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). It can operate within a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
