Description
Description
This Watts 3 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly Backflow Preventer, Series 909RPDA, protects potable water lines from contamination in fire protection systems. It features a durable epoxy-coated cast iron body with ArmorTek technology for corrosion resistance and includes OSY resilient seated gate valves. The integrated GPM meter helps detect leaks and unauthorized water use. A flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert technology on the relief valve, activatable with an add-on connection kit, provides alerts for excessive water discharge, limiting potential damage. Maximum working pressure is 175 psi.

Flood Sensor Activation
- The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert technology requires an add-on connection kit (sold separately) to become active.
- Without this connection kit, the sensor operates as a passive component and will not communicate with other devices.
- Compatible connection kit options include those for Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor, which allows integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa platform via Wi-Fi.

Additional Details
This 3 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly Backflow Preventer prevents the reverse flow of fire protection system substances, such as glycerin wetting agents or stagnant water, from being pumped or siphoned into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure.
Construction & Features
- The assembly features an epoxy coated cast iron body, OSY resilient seated gate valves, captured spring check valves, replaceable stainless steel seats, and top mounted test cocks.
- A pressure differential relief valve is included.
- Equipped with a GPM (gallons per minute) meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
- The entire backflow assembly utilizes ArmorTek®, a patented 3-part advanced epoxy coating system, engineered to resist both microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and exposed metal substrate corrosion.
Flood Sensor Technology
- Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology, specifically designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
- When paired with an add-on connection kit (sold separately), the sensor activates to relay alerts for potential flooding events to facility personnel.
- Connection kit options support BMS, cellular communication, and integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi, enabling proactive maintenance and limiting costly damage.

FAQs
What is the primary function of the Watts 909RPDA backflow preventer?
The primary function of this 3 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly is to prevent the reverse flow of non-potable fire protection system substances into the public water supply, protecting against backsiphonage and backpressure.
How does the ArmorTek coating benefit this backflow preventer?
The ArmorTek coating is a patented three-part advanced epoxy system applied to the cast iron body's internal and external surfaces. It is engineered to resist both microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and general corrosion, enhancing the product's lifespan and reliability.
Does the flood sensor work right out of the box?
No, the flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert technology requires an add-on connection kit, sold separately, to become active and relay alerts. Without this kit, the sensor is a passive component and does not communicate with other devices.
What type of meter is included with this assembly and what is its purpose?
This assembly is furnished with a GPM (gallons per minute) meter. Its purpose is to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water usage within the system.
What are the key components of this 3 inch backflow assembly?
Key components include an epoxy-coated cast iron body, OSY resilient seated gate valves, captured spring check valves, replaceable stainless steel seats, top-mounted test cocks, a pressure differential relief valve, and a GPM meter.
