Help Me Connect

This FEBCO MasterSeries® backflow preventer is designed for horizontal installation in potable water supply lines and at cross-connection points where protection against high-hazard backpressure and backsiphonage is required.

Connections

  • The assembly's end connections are compliant to ASME B16.1 Class 125 and AWWA Class D Flange standards, ensuring compatibility with standard flanged piping systems.
  • The integral flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit to become active. Available connection kit options include those for Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor which enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • The bypass line features a 5/8" x 3/4" water meter for monitoring, helping to detect potential system leaks or unauthorized water use.

Additional Details

This 3 inch lead free MasterSeries® reduced pressure detector backflow preventer assembly protects potable water systems from high-hazard (toxic) fluids by preventing backpressure and backsiphonage. It is primarily used in industrial installations and applications where local codes mandate protection.

Construction & Protection

  • Features Lead Free construction, with wetted surfaces containing less than 0.25% lead by weight.
  • Ductile iron valve body and other iron components are protected by a patented ArmorTek® three-part advanced epoxy coating system. This coating is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates on both internal and external surfaces.
  • Stainless steel relief valve seat and stainless steel check components ensure maximum performance and durability.

Flood Detection & Monitoring

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • An auxiliary bypass line, including a 5/8" x 3/4" water meter, is designed to detect potential underground water leaks and unauthorized water usage, measuring in cubic feet per minute (CFM).

Main Components

  • The main valve consists of two independently acting approved clapper style check modules with replaceable stainless steel check seats, stainless steel disc holders, and silicone elastomer discs.
  • Fitted with UL Classified and FM Approved OS&Y resilient wedge gate valves for reliable shutoff.
  • Contains four properly located resilient seated ball valve test cocks.

An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component that does not communicate with any other device. Watts® is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

FAQs

What type of protection does this backflow preventer offer?

This FEBCO MasterSeries LF866 provides protection against backpressure and backsiphonage of high hazard/toxic fluids into potable drinking water systems. It is ideal for industrial installations and applications.

Is this backflow preventer suitable for potable water applications?

Yes, it features Lead Free construction, meaning the wetted surfaces contain less than 0.25% lead by weight, making it compliant with low lead installation requirements for potable drinking water systems.

What is the purpose of the ArmorTek® coating?

The ArmorTek® coating is a patented three-part advanced epoxy system applied to the ductile iron body and components. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates, enhancing the assembly's lifespan.

How does the flood sensor work and what does it require?

The integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert capabilities (call, email, text), an add-on connection kit is required. Without this kit, the sensor remains passive.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature for this assembly?

This backflow preventer can withstand a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and operates within a continuous temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
