Description
Description
The Watts Series LF909 3 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer assembly provides essential cross-connection control, preventing polluted water from entering potable water supplies due to backsiphonage or backpressure. Its robust cast iron body features ArmorTek® corrosion-resistant coating and a unique air-in/water-out relief valve design for high-capacity discharge performance. This assembly includes a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect excessive water discharge, offering proactive notification when paired with an add-on connection kit. Rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 PSI, it is ideal for continuous pressure health hazard applications.

Sensor Activation & Drainage
- An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor and enable communication with other devices or building management systems. Without this kit, the sensor is passive.
- When installing a drain line for this backflow preventer, an air gap is necessary to ensure proper function and compliance.

Additional Details
This 3 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer assembly prevents the reverse flow of polluted water into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure.
It is designed for use in continuous pressure piping applications and at cross-connections identified as health hazards, providing essential cross-connection control protection.
Construction & Features
- Features an epoxy coated cast iron body with ArmorTek® coating technology, a patented three-part advanced epoxy system engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrate.
- Equipped with a unique patented air-in/water-out relief valve design, which provides high capacity discharge performance during emergency conditions of combined backsiphonage and backpressure, even with fouled checks.
- Includes captured spring check valves, replaceable seats, and stainless steel internal parts for durability and easy servicing.
- A field reversible pressure differential relief valve and top mounted test cocks are integrated for maintenance.
- This assembly is supplied without shutoff valves.
Flood Detection System
- Contains a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
- To activate flood alerts and relay signals for notification, an add-on sensor connection kit is required (sold separately).
- When activated, the flood alerts feature is compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS) and cellular network communication.
- Without the add-on sensor connection kit, the flood sensor functions as a passive component with no external communication.

FAQs
What is the primary purpose of the Watts LF909 backflow preventer?
This 3 inch Lead Free Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer is designed to protect potable water supplies from pollution caused by backsiphonage or backpressure, suitable for health hazard cross-connections.
Does this LF909 assembly come with shutoff valves?
No, this specific Series LF909 assembly (Model LF) is supplied without shutoff valves.
What is ArmorTek® coating and what benefit does it provide?
ArmorTek® is a patented three-part advanced epoxy coating system applied to the cast iron body. It is engineered to reduce microbial-induced corrosion (MIC) and protect exposed metal substrates.
How does the SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor function?
The SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When an add-on sensor connection kit (sold separately) is installed, it relays a signal to facility personnel for notification of potential flooding.
What is the maximum operating pressure for this backflow preventer?
The Watts Series LF909 backflow preventer has a maximum operating pressure of 175 PSI (12.06 bar).
