Description

The 4 inch Ames Fire & Waterworks Series 4000SS Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is a Lead Free compliant backflow preventer designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination at health-hazard cross-connections. Featuring a lightweight 300 Series stainless steel body, this assembly includes domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) gate valves with a flanged inlet and grooved outlet, plus cam-check valves for optimal flow. An integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharge, and with an optional connection kit, can send alerts to facility personnel or building management systems. It is approved by ASSE, CSA, FM, and UL.

Connections

  • The flanged inlet connection is designed for secure attachment to a compatible flanged pipe system.
  • The grooved outlet connection allows for easy and secure connection to a compatible grooved pipe system.

Flood Sensor Connectivity

The integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit (sold separately) to become active and relay alerts. This kit enables integration with various building management systems including BMS, cellular networks, BAS via RS-485 Modbus, or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi connectivity. The sensor itself is externally mounted and does not alter the assembly's primary functions or certifications.

Additional Details

This 4 inch Ames Fire & Waterworks Series 4000SS Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly prevents the reverse flow of contaminated water into the potable water supply due to backsiphonage or backpressure, ideal for health-hazard cross-connections.

The assembly is designed with a compact, short lay length for easy installation and features a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.

Features

  • Stainless steel body provides long-term corrosion resistance, maximum strength, and is half the weight of competitive designs, reducing installation and shipping costs.
  • Domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves with flanged inlet and grooved outlet connections.
  • Cam-check assembly provides maximum flow at low pressure drop and requires no special tools for servicing.
  • Stainless steel relief valve features a balanced rolling diaphragm, eliminating sliding seals and lowering maintenance costs.
  • SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor on the relief valve detects excessive water discharge, triggering alerts when paired with an add-on connection kit.
  • Compact construction allows for smaller enclosures and short end-to-end dimensions simplify retrofitting.
  • Includes two resilient seated shutoff valves and four ball type test cocks.

An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component and will not communicate with any other device. Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Ames 4000SS Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly?

The primary purpose is to prevent the reverse flow of contaminated water, caused by backsiphonage or backpressure, from entering the potable water supply. It is specifically designed for health-hazard cross-connections.

Does this backflow preventer require an external power source for its flood sensor?

The integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor is a passive component until an add-on connection kit is installed. This kit provides the necessary activation and communication capabilities to relay alerts for potential flooding events.

What type of connections does the 4-inch 4000SS-DOSY-FxG-FS model have?

This model features a flanged inlet gate connection and a grooved outlet gate connection, making it compatible with corresponding flanged and grooved piping systems.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel for corrosion resistance. The check assembly uses Noryl®.

What are the key approvals and certifications for this 4000SS assembly?

This 4-inch Series 4000SS assembly is approved by ASSE 1013, CSA B64.5, FM Approved (for OSY models), and UL Classified (for OSY models). It also complies with AWWA C511-92 standards.
