Description

This 4-inch Watts Series 957 Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer safeguards potable water systems from contamination by backpressure or backsiphonage in health hazard applications. Constructed with a 304 stainless steel housing and featuring grooved gear-operated butterfly valve shutoffs, this compact assembly is 70% lighter than traditional designs. It includes an integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect continuous relief valve discharge, offering enhanced protection against water damage when paired with an add-on connection kit for alert relay via BMS, cellular, or Wi-Fi. Approved by UL, FM, NSF, AWWA, ASSE, and CSA, it ensures reliable performance up to 175 PSI.

Help Me Connect

The Watts Series 957 Reduced Pressure Zone assembly is designed for straightforward installation and integration into existing systems. It features groove fittings that allow for easy pipe alignment and adjustment during installation.

For the integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to provide active alerts, an optional add-on sensor connection kit is required. These kits enable compatibility with various communication systems:

  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Cellular network communication
  • BAS integration via RS-485 Modbus using the Sensor Control Monitor
  • Nexa® platform integration via Wi-Fi using the Sensor Control Monitor

When installing a drain line for this backflow preventer, it is recommended to use Watts 957AG air gaps. Attach the air gap brackets directly onto the flood sensor for proper drainage.

Additional Details

The Watts Series 957 4 inch Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer protects potable water systems from contamination due to backpressure or backsiphonage, especially in health hazard applications. This compact and lightweight assembly features grooved gear-operated butterfly valve shutoffs with tamper switches for reliable flow control.

This RPZ assembly includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When an add-on connection kit is used, the sensor activates to relay alerts for potential flooding, which can be integrated into building management systems (BMS) or cellular networks.

Construction & Design

  • 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for durability.
  • Extremely compact design is 70% lighter than traditional models, allowing use in smaller enclosures.
  • Features replaceable check disc rubber and patented torsion spring checks for lowest pressure loss.
  • Bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve.
  • Groove fittings enable integral pipeline adjustment and unmatched ease of serviceability.

Flood Detection System

  • Integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor on the relief valve for active discharge detection.
  • Requires an add-on sensor connection kit for full alert functionality and communication.
  • Connection kit options support BMS, cellular network communication, or integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform by Wi-Fi connectivity.

Proper installation of the flood sensor and drain line, including the use of Watts 957AG air gaps, is required to ensure proper drainage and full functionality. The flood sensor does not replace compliance with all installation codes and regulations.
