Connections & Compatibility

This WATTS Series 957 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly features grooved couplings for integral pipeline adjustment and simplified installation into your piping system. It is approved for Z-pattern horizontal installation in accordance with the direction of the flow arrow.

The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on sensor connection kit to activate its communication capabilities. This kit allows integration with Building Management Systems (BMS), cellular networks, or the Sensor Control Monitor. The Sensor Control Monitor enables communication with Building Automation Systems (BAS) via RS-485 Modbus or through the Nexa® platform using Wi-Fi connectivity. When installing a drain line on this backflow preventer, use 957AG air gaps and attach the air gap brackets directly onto the flood sensor.

Additional Details

The WATTS Series 957 4 inch Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) assembly backflow preventer protects potable water systems from contamination due to backpressure or backsiphonage in health hazard applications. This compact and lightweight assembly features a Z-pattern orientation, ideal for installations where space is a premium.

The assembly includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve, providing an early warning for potential flooding events.

Construction & Features

  • Body Material: Constructed with 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve for durability and corrosion resistance.
  • Valves: Equipped with UL Classified and FM Approved grooved gear operated butterfly valves with tamper switch for reliable shutoff.
  • Check Valves: Features patented torsion spring checks that provide the lowest pressure loss and unmatched ease of serviceability.
  • Check Discs: Incorporates replaceable elastomer check disc rubber, which can be reversible silicone or EPDM.
  • Relief Valve: Includes a bottom-mounted cast stainless steel relief valve with a Lead Free* bronze body.
  • Design: Extremely compact design, approximately 70% lighter than traditional designs.
  • Connections: Utilizes groove fittings to allow integral pipeline adjustment and ease of installation.
  • Flood Detection: Sensor on relief valve for flood detection. Flood alerts are activated with an add-on sensor connection kit, compatible with BMS and cellular network communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi.

Notice: An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's communication features. Without the connection kit, the sensor is a passive component.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the WATTS Series 957 RPZ assembly?

The primary function is to protect potable water systems from contamination in health hazard applications. It prevents the reverse flow of liquids caused by backpressure or backsiphonage.

What does the flood sensor do?

The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When paired with an add-on connection kit, it can relay alerts for potential flooding events.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The housing and sleeve are made from 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. The relief valve body is Lead Free* bronze, and check discs are replaceable elastomer (silicone or EPDM).

What are the installation requirements for this Z-pattern assembly?

This assembly is approved for horizontal Z-pattern installation. It must be installed in accordance with all required instructions, codes, and regulations, and local governing authorities' requirements. Grooved couplings facilitate pipeline adjustment.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature?

The maximum operating pressure for this 4 inch assembly is 175 psi (12.1 bar). The temperature range is 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
